PRAYER LETTER FOR AUGUST, 2010

Monday, August 09, 2010
Dear Pastors, Churches, Friends and Loved Ones:

“All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
    First, From Brother Raul:
I am writing my part of the prayer letter sooner this month, because I will be gone with Miriam on our honeymoon when the regular time for it will come. We would like to ask you to remember us in your prayers.  We are aware that we need to set an example of Christian living and family values before the church and the world.  And we know we need the grace of God that we may set godly examples before our Church and before the lost as well.
The literature ministry is going well.  We have finished J. E. Cobb’s “Baptist Church Manual” (abridged and adapted for the Romanian language) and now it is ready for print.  We started working on correcting another big project we hope to finalize this year: Leonard Verduin’s “The Reformers and their Stepchildren.”
Aurel just furnished us with a list of the publications that have been printed / reprinted this year.  They amount to 19,000 copies and we are not to the end of the year yet.  Also, my outline study, “The Church – Universal or Local,” which is the largest project we printed so far (65 pages) has been printed in 150 copies.  It will be reprinted soon as there is more demand for it.  We printed Spurgeon’s “Barley Field on Fire” in April.  We printed 2,000 copies then and we thought it will probably last the whole year.  We’ve had to reprint it this month, and this time 3,000 copies.  People are still interested in the literature we put out.  They contact us as ask us to send them what we have and they in turn distribute it in their communities, hospitals, doctors offices, churches, on the trains, etc.  We praise the Lord for this and try to fulfill all the requests.  We see in many ways how the seed that has been sown years ago by way of literature, is now coming up.
We are very thankful to our Lord for all this.  And we appreciate so much all your prayers and giving that make this work possible.
Please keep us in your prayers!
    Brother Raul

   From Brother Curtis:
    ROMANIA NEWS:
On the 21st of August I had the wonderful opportunity to preach the Gospel to more than 100 of Raul and Miriam’s family and friends gathered for their wedding feast.  Quite a number of them are Romanian Orthodox.  Many are Baptists perhaps because of family alliances, tradition and political motivations against the “established” Orthodox religion here in Romania.  Some who were present are obviously living in the world.  I am sure that many, if not most of them, had not heard the simple Gospel of God’s free grace in salvation preached before.  This we viewed as another opportunity to sow the seed of the Word of God, praying that God will bless it as He sees fit.  Little is known of the necessity of Holy Spirit regeneration!
Quite a number of people whom we have known for years here in Romania were present at Raul’s and Miriam’s wedding and later at the wedding feast.  Because of the steps and lack of seating, I was not present at the city hall for the actual civil ceremony required by Romanian law.  Janet was able to visit in the crowd outside the building while the wedding party was in the government office.  However, several folk came by the car to speak to me, and some to say goodbye.  During the feast many others came to Janet and me to tell us of their appreciation for our work and to say goodbye also.  So this wedding was a joyful time for Janet and me and also a difficult one as we face leaving a people for whom God has given us a great love and concern.  Whether true children of God or not, we cannot say about some, but our years here have demonstrated our love and concern for Romanian people.
May God bless His Word here as He has planned from eternity – all to the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ!

    ON THE OKLAHOMA FRONT:
Transition Funds:  Three special offerings for our transition to Oklahoma were received this month.  The Grace Baptist Church in Melbourne, FL where Elder Ed Bowen is pastor gave once again to help us.  We also received another offering from the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Caldwell, KS where Elder Nathaniel Hille is pastor.  The third Church to help us this month with a gift to the transition fund was the Berea Baptist Church of Mantachie, Mississippi.  Our thanks and appreciation go out to all of you who have been able to help us toward getting settled in Oklahoma.
Airfare provided:  Our own Church, Grace Bible Baptist Church of Denham Springs, LA. very kindly provided funds to cover the cost of our flight back to the States.  God has been so very good and faithful – He always is – to provide the funds needed to get us back to the U.S. and settled.  How we praise Him and thank all of you who have given and have prayed for these needs.
Flight Scheduled:  After consulting with the staff at the Independent Elderly Housing in Poteau as to when the houses should be ready, we booked our flight from Budapest, Hungary (our nearest “hub”) to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The Brothers here will drive us to Budapest.  We are scheduled to leave at just before 9:00 AM on Monday, October 4th.  Lord willing, we should arrive in Baton Rouge just before 6:00 PM that same evening.  We will fly from Budapest to London, from London to Dallas/Ft. Worth and from there to Baton Rouge, LA.  Including 2 brief layovers, our total airline travel time should be about 16 hours.
I am out of space!  Thank you for your involvement in the work here!  We count on your continued help in prayer and giving as you are able so that the important work of the Gospel may continue.
    Pray!
In the cause of God and truth.
