PRAYER LETTER FOR AUGUST, 2011

Thursday, September 08, 2011

MEMBER OF THE MONTH:

Dear Pastors and Churches,

YOUNGEST MEMBER:
I will introduce this month the youngest member in our church. She is my wife, Miriam. Just before I flew to the States we celebrated our first wedding anniversary. She is 23, and was baptized more than a year ago. She is a great help to me, the church and to the literature ministry, working with Aurel in the print shop. She has to fulfill many of my responsibilities while I am in the States, as well as her own. I am thankful for her understanding and support, without which I couldn’t have come here. Please pray for her, that the Lord will supply her with strength.  Being apart one from the other is not at all easy, especially when all the extra responsibilities she now has are considered.

TRIPS: Last month we made two trips to Filiasi and rejoiced with the brethren there. Besides me, Brothers Aurel, George and Aurel Munteanu preached the Word. We praise the Lord for the wonderful time of worship and fellowship we had. It is a great joy to see the Lord working and raising men to stand for the truth. I am confident that these brethren will do a good job feeding the flock in my absence.

U.S. VISIT: On August 25th I flew out of Budapest and arrived in Greensboro, NC on the 26th. I enjoyed the fellowship of Grace Baptist Church in Stanleyville, NC and all the brethren I met at their Bible conference. I also preached for Hillcrest Baptist Church, Winston Salem, and tomorrow I will be with the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Wake Forest. It is such a joy and privilege to be with the brethren and meet the Lord’s churches, a joy I did not experience before, as we, in Romania, stand alone, and have no other church to fellowship with. My complete itinerary can be found on my Facebook account, as well as on our church’s blog.

LITERATURE WORK: The literature work is going well. Aurel and Miriam are really busy in this part of the mission work. Our newest publication, Spurgeon’s Election, is already being distributed, and a Christian bookstore near Bocsa asked for several hundred copies to give away. The Risograph needs more rubber parts to be changed, 4 out of 15 simply disintegrated because of age and wear. They are part of the mechanism that pulls in the paper. We were able to find some this time, but we don’t know about the future, as our model is obsolete. The Risograph is still functional, but it may not be for long. It has made almost 3,000,000 impressions. We started a fund for a new Riso, and every time we have some money left at the end of the month, we put it into the fund. I ask you all to pray about this matter, as the Riso is the most important piece of equipment in our print shop. Without it, all the printing would stop.

GETTING AQUAINTED WITH ROMANIA: On August 15th, Romanian Orthodox celebrate the death of Saint Mary, the mother of Jesus. They believe Mary is their intercessor before God, and some believe that even after the Great Judgment, Mary will throw a great net into Hell, and whoever will get hold of it, will be pulled out of Hell into Heaven. On that day, devout orthodox will bring offerings in behalf of the deceased in their families that bear the name Mary. There are many other traditions and superstitions related to her, but for less devout folks, it only means an extra reason to party and get drunk. Starting with this year, the Romanian government made this celebration a national one.
    Brother Raul

Hello from Oklahoma:

!  As I read over Raul’s part of this prayer letter, I noticed how many things we have for which to thank God.  As He has worked through many of you in supplying necessary funds for this mission work, we also want to express our thanks and appreciation for your help.  As we have said before, God has chosen to work through many of you in “holding the rope” for all those engaged in this work.  THANK YOU!

LITERATURE:  In 2010 we printed 28,000 pieces of literature: this year is not over yet and we have already printed 35,000 pieces – tracts and booklets.  These have been distributed to people who asked for them so that they can give them to people in their localities.  Our Riso (duplicator) is a 1998 model.  Personally, I am surprised that it still functions as well as it does.  (Bro. Aurel knows its idiosyncrasies and does a great job in keeping it going!)  Estimated cost of a new Risograph is about 5,000 Euro.  This amount, according to an online currency converter equals $6,998.08.  So we need about $7,000 in U.S. money to purchase this needed piece of equipment.

APOLOGY:  Bro. Raul can only stay 3 months in the States due to his work in Romania.  I scheduled his meetings and can only apologize for not being able to work out his itinerary so that he could visit all the supporting Churches (and some others that are really interested in having him preach to them).  I did my best with the limited time available.  Perhaps Raul can visit the U.S. again in the not too distant future.  If the Lord wills, we will try to get him to the Churches in the North and far West as well as other interested Churches.

Thank you again for all that you do and have done to set forward the work of God in Romania!  Keep us in your prayers and me, here in Oklahoma, as I have begun to look for a place to rent for services – more later!

In the cause of God and truth,
    Curtis Pugh
