PRAYER LETTER FOR
APRIL, 2003
Friday,
May 09, 2003
Dear
Pastors and Churches:
"All
that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace
be with you all ..." (Titus 3:15).
May this letter find each of you doing well is our prayer.
I want to do something different in this letter. Usually I wait until the
last to try to extend our gratitude for your faithful prayers and your
financial support. I want to emphasize our thankfulness for you and our
appreciation to you at the first of this letter. As I have said before,
"Thank You" always seems woefully inadequate, but we do thank you for your
help and ask that you earnestly pray for us these days. In Romanian we
say, "Multumesc foarte mult!" (mool tsoo mesk - fwarr teh - moolt) = Thank
you very much!
Brother Raul and I returned to Romania on the 10th of April and so a part
of this reporting period was spent in Siberia, Russia. There I preached
in several churches as mentioned in my full report on this trip and met
with pastors and the men from 4 churches in question-and-answer type teaching
sessions.
I continue to correspond at length with the Brothers in Siberia via e-mail.
I am trying to give them biblical answers to their questions. They are
studying the materials I left them and other things I have sent them in
electronic format. (They have a computer program that does a "fair" job
of translating for them.) Two or three of the churches are standing for
what we believe, it seems, and trying to influence others away from looseness
and liberalism. I have learned that Brother Sergey's car (which was running
only on 3 cylinders when I was there last month) is now not running at
all and needs a major overhaul. The few hundred dollars cost of this repair
seems to them like an insurmountable amount of money. I have also learned
that they want me to return to teach them more in the autumn, but I cannot
do this. I cannot leave the work here in Romania. I have a great burden
on my heart for these people and their needs,
having
been there and having met them. Please pray with us that some sound Church
and pastor will be led of God to take on this area as a special missionary
enterprise or that God will raise up a sound Brother to go and teach there!
We continue here with the mission work in Bocsa. Attendance has been down
in the month of April and this is of concern to us, though we understand
that the people are busy here with planting gardens and fields in order
to survive. The 10+ year drought continues and we need of rain, but more
in need of the working of God's Holy Spirit in the hearts of people here.
Pray especially for Brother Costel and Sister Eunice, the young couple
who faithfully attend both our service on Sundays. They face much opposition
from family and friends because of their interest in the truth of the Word
of God. We continue to seek a place to meet in a more central location,
but have found no place to rent as yet. Please pray about this with us!
Our present literature projects include the 2nd edition of THE TRAIL OF
BLOOD. This has gone to the printer as it is too big a job for our equipment
here in Bocsa. We have clarified some passages in it which were not so
clear and corrected and updated spelling, punctuation, etc. according to
Romanian rules which are quite different from English. We are also getting
ready a large supply of more than 20 other booklets and tracts sufficient
for special distribution in the next month or two. (We have already received
requests for more than 2,600 copies of THE TRAIL OF BLOOD - more than half
of the 5,000 we will print.) We will need to deliver these and along with
them will distribute our other materials. We have requests for THE TRAIL
OF BLOOD from Bucuresti, and from locations near the Danube in the south
of Romania, from near the Black Sea near Constanta in the east of Romania,
from the northeastern part of Romania near the Republic of Moldova. We
continue to receive, from time to time, requests for the CD's that we distribute
and are able to mail them out in small packets of literature through the
Romanian post office. We have also received a request for more sovereign
grace literature from some students at the Baptist institute in Bucuresti
and hope to supply this need in the days ahead.
We are especially thankful at this time for the water well here on the
mission property and trust the Lord that it will continue to furnish us
sufficient water. The whole town of Bocsa has been without city water for
two days now and water will be available (the city promises) in the days
ahead only from 8-10 AM and from 3-6 PM each day. This is not because of
the drought, but because of general mismanagement on the part of Communist-era
policies and politicians who continue to this day. This is life in Romania!
As I am now out of space, I must close. Thank you, again, for your help
- especially for your fervent prayers on our behalf! Please continue to
pray for the Pughs and for the work here in Romania.
Pray for the Pughs.
In the cause of God and truth,
Curtis and Janet Pugh
