PRAYER LETTER FOR
APRIL, 2007
Friday, May 11, 2007
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that
are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be
with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
Warmest
Christian greetings from all of us to you all! Our attendance in
Bocsa continues steady as does the attendance in Filiasi. Though
having little of this world’s goods, the folk in Filiasi are very generous.
They have recently given us green onions, lettuce, and cucumbers from their
gardens and even given us fresh goat meat from their flock. We do
not want what is theirs, but rejoice that God has caused them to desire
to help us as they are able. Please pray for these folk!
My
Mother: Our sovereign God was pleased to take my mother home
to Heaven this past Wednesday. Thank you for your prayers for her
during her illness. Due to my present medical problems, we are not
able to travel such a distance without assistance and so remain in Romania.
Another
Medical Trip: Because my hemoglobin count was so low (7.8) Brother
Raul had to take me to Budapest once again. I could not get into
a government hospital and had to go to a private one in order to be given
3 units of blood in order to raise my red cell count. The cost of
hospital stay, transfusion, doctor, etc. came to $1,528.03. We do
thank those who have helped with previous medical expenses this month!
May God supply all your need and bless you all greatly! Doctors want
me to repeat this transfusion in the fall.
The
Dollar: The U.S. dollar has continued it’s downward slide and
now we get only about 2.4 Romanian Lei for each dollar. Before we
were getting a high of about 31 Lei to the dollar. Please pray about
this situation. Some Arminian missionaries are returning to the States
to raise additional support because costs continue to rise and the dollar
goes down. Surely a sovereign God can supply our needs without stopping
the work here to return to the States for additional deputation meetings.
Please pray!
Van
Fund: Last month we made known our need of a van and the costs
of a new one (about $45,000.00) versus a good second-hand one (about $25,000.00).
Including the initial anonymous gift of $2,000.00 and what is yet on hand
at our Church in the U.S. a total of $6,500.00 has come in so far.
We are very thankful for your help towards the cost of this needed tool.
We now have more than ¼ the total amount needed. Praise the
Lord for this answer to prayer through you who have prayed and you who
have been led to give toward this need. Please continue to pray for
this and all aspects of the work here!
Literature:
The literature work continues with requests coming in and our mailings
going out. We have 3 or 4 new projects lined up and expect to be
working toward completion of them in the weeks ahead.
Visitors:
As I write this we are in the midst of a visit by Elder Wayne and Sister
Betty Crow. Brother Crow is the pastor of the Central Avenue Baptist
Church, Tampa, Florida. We are all enjoying the fellowship greatly!
Brother Crow preached to us Sunday morning here in Bocsa along with Brother
Raul. He then traveled with us to Filiasi, preached there and then
made the 4+ hour trip back to Bocsa, getting here after 1:00 AM.
I hope I am going as strong as he is if I reach his age of 76 years!
Russian
Literature Project: The eleven Churches in the Irkutsk region
of Siberia are very desirous of receiving a supply T. P. Simmons’ book
on Bible doctrine. We left them an English copy when we were there
and it has been a great help to the few pastors who read English there.
We are considering supplying them with a supply of OUTLINES OF SYSTEMATIC
THEOLOGY – an outline version of T. P. Simmons’ A SYSTEMATIC STUDY OF BIBLE
DOCTRINE by Elder Tom Ross. Brother Ross has graciously given us
permission to produce this book both in Romanian (a current project with
us) and in the Russian language. There are both Russians and Romanians
who will benefit from having this book as nothing like it is available
here in Romania or in the Ukraine, in the Republic of Moldova or in Russia
(Siberia). All three of these countries, of course, are populated
by Russian-speaking peoples. We have located two Brothers in the
Republic of Moldova who are qualified in both English (one of them having
studied 5 years in London) and Russian. These Brothers believe the
doctrine of grace. We can work with these men helping them with expressions,
etc. with which they might not be familiar. We are considering printing
these books here in Bocsa, after they are translated, and then shipping
them to Siberia and other places as they are requested. We can transport
them into Moldova without any customs problems and from there they can
be forwarded to Siberia, according to what we now know. The cost
of translation will be about $2,000. We do not yet have a cost figured
for the paper and supplies it will take for us to produce these books –
nor do we have the transportation costs totaled yet. We are constantly
busy here, but are willing to take on this added job in order to get these
materials out in the Russian language. At this time we ask for your
earnest prayers regarding this matter as we continue to look into the possibility
of our doing this. We have recently received correspondence from
a pastor in the Ukraine who believes in grace and has declared that he
wants to have fellowship with landmark Baptists as he has read all our
literature and believes in the tenets of Landmarkism. I am sure he
will be very interested in getting such a book in the Russian language.
We do not yet need funds, but do need much earnest prayer on behalf of
such a project. It would involve the purchase of a relatively inexpensive
machine to punch the pages and install the plastic-comb binding.
We will keep you informed about this possible project in future mailings.
But, please, do pray about this as we believe we can do the work economically
and meet a real spiritual need among many.
Once again, as always, I run out of space before I am finished. Thank
you for “holding the rope” for us – especially for your support of Brother
Raul and Brother Aurel – as well as your faithful prayer and financial
support of the other aspects of this work. Please remember us all
before the throne of grace as you pray!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
Curtis and Janet Pugh
