PRAYER LETTER FOR AUGUST, 2002
Thursday, October 10, 2002
Dear Pastors and Churches:
"Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world" (Acts 15:18).
Slava Domnului! (Praise the Lord!) I take great comfort and find peace in knowing that God is perfectly in control and working His great plan - all in His perfect time. We are not mere subjects of fate or chance or of some evil conspiracy of man or demons. We are the children of God through faith because of the finished work of Christ Jesus and God shall surely with Christ give us all things that pertain to life and godliness! As you know, during this past month our beloved pastor, Elder Milburn Cockrell, was taken home to be with the Lord. He is greatly missed. It was a privilege to be his friend for many years and members of the Church he pastored for these last several. Please pray for our Church as we seek the man we believe God must have to lead us as our pastor.
Because of the time our pastor went to be with the Lord and the plane schedules, we were not able to come to the States for the funeral. As you know we have been in the midst of an elongated move from Berzovia to Bocsa, Romania. The distance is not far, but my being in a period of recovery from surgery and with Janet's limitations, this move was quite a big event for us. We are planning on coming to the States for the next few weeks. We will fly out of Budapest, Hungary on the 16th of October and we will be returning to Romania on the 12th of November. We expect to spend much time with our Church and to visit our families.
But we are moved! (Please note our new address and phone number above.) And most things are in place, although some things have not been located yet, mainly because we had to have help both in the packing and actual transporting of our household stuff. It was a rainy time, but God gave us one day without rain - the 30th of September. We hired a local Romanian Baptist Brother and his old German truck - complete with a roof hatch for the use of a machine-gunner! The central heating unit has been successfully installed and the well pump also. So we have heat and running water! Our well continues to remain nearly full with water and while it certainly is not soft water, it has far less minerals than the well we formerly used in Berzovia. We have all the guttering and downspouts in place - very important items when you live in a mud brick house in a rainy climate! A few days after moving in, we were able to get  the kitchen sink installed. We brought the kitchen cabinets from Berzovia, but the sink there was in another unit and it belonged to the landlord. Houses here are constructed without closets and so "dulapuri" are used (wardrobes), so these were included in the move. We borrowed from the Ungur family some "second hand" blankets for protective padding between the pieces of furniture. This idea of putting padding between the pieces of furniture was a new concept to the men who were loading the truck! I had to repeatedly tell them to use the padding. Usually furniture, etc., is simply set in a truck and you can see it bouncing and bumping together and against the sides of the truck as the whole thing bounces down the bumpy highway. Of course it arrives scratched, cracked, scarred and ruined. Nothing was seriously damaged or ruined in our move. Thank you for praying regarding this move!
We continue with the services of the Bocsa mission. We know many who ought to be attending -  please pray for these contacts. During our absence, Raul will be preaching as well as holding home Bible studies. Please pray for this young man. He is quite knowledgeable in the Word and takes a strong doctrinal stand for free grace and for church truth. Aurel has returned from Sweden and is once again helping us with translation work. I have written a booklet on the 11 marks or characteristics of a New Testament Church (from The Trail of Blood) and we are preparing it for publication. "The Historical Faith of the Baptists On God's Sovereignty" is being translated for publication as well as some tracts and other materials. We have had good conversations with Sami Avram - he continues to take a good stand, I believe, for free grace and has agreed with our materials on landmarkism. He has returned to the institute in Bucuresti, but may be expelled because of his stand for free grace. Please pray for him and Aurel as well.
We have sent out 3 sets of the CDs that we give away as well as a number of pieces of literature this past month. We have received three phone calls with requests for us to come and preach - two from different parts of Romania and one from Spain. We now have requests for preaching and literature from several parts of Romania, from the Republic of Moldova, from Serbia, from the Ukraine, and from Rome. How shall we be equal to these things? We need the wisdom and ability to properly respond to these requests of people hungry for the truths of the Word of God - people who are no longer satisfied with the shallowness and error of Arminianism. We have experienced years ago the difficulties of living in a place without a sound Church and without hearing the message of God's free and sovereign grace. Our hearts ache for these people! So we are preparing much literature and expect to make several preaching and distribution trips after our return from the States in November. Winter is a good time to go as the people are not so busy with crops, gardens, etc., and have free time to listen.
I am out of space once again! Please accept our sincere thanks for your many kindnesses shown us - your cards, letters, e-mails, phone calls all mean much to us. Your faithful financial support and prayers sustain us in this place. Thank you! Please, pray for the Pughs!

In the cause of God and truth,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
