PRAYER LETTER FOR
AUGUST, 2004
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“Grace
be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.”
(Ephesians 6:24).
Greetings
from Romania! I arrived here almost 4 weeks ago and have been kept
busy ever since. The car had to be transported to the dealer in Timisoara
for repairs. I thought the price of $200 was too high and so Brother
Raul towed me with his old car to the edge of the city. There I had
a wrecker transport the car through the city traffic to the dealer.
That was two weeks ago yesterday. Parts should arrive today and hopefully
next week the car will be available. In addition, the water well
pump had to be removed and taken to the dealer for service. It works
fine now. The lawnmower is beyond repair, but the purchase of a new
one will have to wait.
Things have been further complicated by an insect bite or sting I received
on my right hand just a couple of days after arriving back in Romania.
However, that swelling has gone down. I have been running a low-grade
fever which the doctor thinks is from another problem. However my fever
is gradually diminishing and is now back to normal. Blood analysis
has determined that I am anemic. I will keep you posted as I know
more. I am in contact with the doctor in Budapest, Hungary who knows
my condition.
Churches
Visited:
At my last writing I was at our home Church in Denham Springs. I
traveled through Decatur, AL and had the privilege of preaching to the
Philadelphia Baptist Church (Elder Doyal Thomas, pastor). Then I
drove on to Kentucky and returned the car that Brother Steve Flinchum had
so graciously loaned me for the duration of my stay in the U.S. After
that I visited briefly with my son-in-law and daughter (Mark and Anna Cattemull)
and they took me to the St. Louis airport for my long flight via Chicago
to Frankfurt and then to Budapest and then the overnight van trip to Timisoara
where Brother Raul met me. I was traveling from Thursday morning
Central U.S. time until about 5:00 AM Saturday morning, Romanian time.
Bocsa
Meeting:
Those who attend the meeting of the Baptists in Bocsa welcomed me back
warmly. I have begun a series in Genesis on Wednesday evenings and
a series on the practical results of regeneration on Sunday mornings.
Oltenia
Preaching Point:
Having had no transportation available, no one has been to Oltenia for
several weeks. We hear from the Brothers there weekly and they are
anxious to us to resume the services there. They, too, are awaiting
literature for distribution.
Literature
Work:
We are still playing “catch up” with the literature. I have purchased
and Raul has transported to Bocsa needed paper and we are in the process
of replenishing depleted titles. Also we have purchased CD’s and labels
and will be filling outstanding requests for these as soon as we buy CD
cases. I am happy to tell you that while postage rates have indeed
gone up in Romania, they have not increased in the amounts we were previously
advised.
We continue to have requests for our literature from our own area and from
distant cities. At this time, requests for me to come and preach
and teach have come from two cities in the east as well as the Republic
of Moldova. Some pastors and preachers want to meet with me in two
of these places – they have questions and are looking for Bible answers,
it seems. I hope to make such a two-week trip as soon as I am physically
and financially able to do so. (As I wrote in an earlier prayer letter,
I will not be mentioning specific cities by name anymore because the enemies
of free grace and the Lord’s Churches – both here and in America – are
reading my prayer letters as they are found on the Internet and attempting
to slander us and the truth. Certain Baptist “popes” here are working
with a couple of apostate landmarkers / apostate sovereign gracers who
come from America from time to time; seeking to oppose the truths we love
and proclaim. May God be pleased to deal with them according to His
will. If any pastor friend or supporting Church wishes to know specifics
about the cities from which I have requests to come and preach, distribute
literature, etc., I will be happy to provide that information. Just
ask.)
We continue to be mindful of our Brothers and Sisters along the Gulf of
Mexico where the three hurricanes and many tornadoes have hit. Our
prayers have gone up and continue to go up for all of you who have had
to endure these storms. May God supply you all with great grace!
To all of you who are interested in our work among Romanian-speaking people,
to those who financially support us and to those who pray for us, we are
ever grateful. Always, it seems, there are open doors set before
us. In spite of sickness, trials and opposition we continue to have
opportunities to go and preach the Gospel. Our aim is to see the
lost saved and New Testament Baptist Churches organized. We labor
daily toward this goal and thank you who sustain us as God leads and enables
you to do. We are thankful for our home Church and all of you who
“hold the rope” for us. THANK YOU!
In the cause of God and truth,
Curtis and Janet Pugh
