PRAYER LETTER FOR AUGUST, 2006

Friday, September 08, 2006
Dear Pastors and Churches:
All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
Greetings to all of you from Romania!  It has been only about half a month since our last letter in which we reported on our Pastor’s visit here, so this report will not cover much time, but generally things are going well now.
Health Concerns:  Janet is doing pretty well, although her dizziness and eye problems continue.  She is faithful and keeps up with her housework and other duties.  Please pray for her as daily she has severe eye and head pains as well as constant dizziness which makes doing everything more difficult.  As Bro. Dodson’s time came near to fly back to the States, I began to come down with another “spell” with my auto-immune disease.  This one has lasted more than two weeks!  While my fevers were low-grade, I had spots, painful welts, knots, and something like insect bites pop up – scattered from my chin to my feet.  I experienced great weakness as well as muscle pain in my back and legs.  I think this “spell” was brought on by doing too much in the days prior to our pastor’s arrival.  You may remember that we made a preaching tour just before Bro. Dodson came and then a lot of travel with him as well.  But I am on the mend now, I believe.
Bocsa and Filiasi Meetings:  Not having been able to travel to Filiasi since our pastor was here with us, I can, however, report that the meetings have continued there in our absence with interested attendance.  The Brothers gather for Bible study and prayer and it seems the work goes forward in that way when we are absent.  Recently two of the Brothers traveled to another city in Oltenia on a mission trip with our literature.  While there, they visited the afternoon service of a Baptist Union church and heard a sermon that contained more truth than they expected to hear. That encouraged the men.  They talked at length with the pastor and left him with a whole packet of our literature.  He seemed interested in our booklets and tracts.  Pray, please, for this and other Baptist Union pastors with whom we have contact and who are receptive to at least some truth.
Literature:  Today we took delivery of $840.00 worth of printing paper and shall order some additional cover stock in the days ahead.  We may also need to purchase ink, masters and staples as well in order to get our much-depleted literature re-stocked.  Our folder-stapler runs constantly if turned on and cannot be used until we can take it to Cluj-Napoca to have a switch replaced.  The  switch is not expensive, but impossible to replace properly without the proper tools and know-how.  (It requires after installation a critical adjustment.)  It is a very good machine, but typical of well-built German machinery, requires precise adjustment.  It is a 6 hour drive to Cluj-Napoca from Bocsa and 6 hours back, so a whole day must be taken in getting this needed machine back in service.
Preaching Tours:  Brothers Aurel and Raul took some vacation time – they got free rides with friends-of-friends to Vienna, Austria where Aurel has a sister, and then on to northern Italy where they visited Venice and other places.  It is amazing how Romanians “network” together and can often travel at no cost!  Because of this and my illness, we have not done any travel to preach in these last few weeks.  But we have had contact with some whom we visited and they continue to be encouraged by the truth.  Please remember to pray for these men and the people to whom they preach.
Most Dangerous: We thought it was the case all along, but the official news is that travel on Romanian highways is the most dangerous in all of Europe.  Highway conditions are bad, roads are poorly lighted and marked, there are many new drivers on the road along with a big increase in the number of cars on the highways, and almost no police presence except occasionally in towns and villages.  Unless you have experienced it, you cannot really imagine the attitude of the people on the highways: rules of the road are either unknown or almost wholly ignored.  No-passing zones mean nothing, speed limits are ignored, and often traffic lights and stop signs have no effect on the speed with which drivers enter intersections.  So we ask you, please, pray for us as we travel!  We rejoice in knowing that God is in control and that we are in His hands wherever we go.
New Support:  As was reported last month, the Grace Baptist Church of Stanleyville, N.C. has voted to begin supporting both Aurel and Raul on a monthly basis.  Their support will begin in September for the month of October.   Our own Church, Grace Bible Baptist, has voted to also begin monthly support of these two fine Brothers.  We believe this is right and needful as these men work full time in literature production as well as in meetings in various places as we are able to go (preaching and singing and driving), and in doing whatever needs to be done to set the work forward.
An old preacher expressed it this way: If somebody gives you an Irish-potato, you should be grateful!  I believe that!  God, through you all, sustains us in every way in this mission effort.  And we are grateful to you all for all that you do for us.  As we labor together with you we constantly are reminded of your interest, your love, your financial support, your prayers on our behalf, and your faithfulness.  So we thank you from our hearts and praise the Lord daily for those of you who stand with us.  Do, please, continue to pray for us as we seek to be faithful to the work God has set before us.  We certainly need your prayers!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
