PRAYER LETTER FOR AUGUST, 2008

Wednesday, September 10, 2008
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
How we appreciate your love for us.  While we may be lonely for fellowship with the brethren at times, we are never alone.  First of all, Christ is with us just as He promised He would be!  And we do have excellent fellowship with our Romanian brethren in Christ, but the knowledge that even though you all are far from us, you stand with us – this is a great encouragement to us!  May God’s grace be with you all!
Mission Trip:  Plans are being finalized for the extended mission trip to the east of the country.  A special offering was received and placed in a fund for this use.  Thanks be to God for supplying this need!  At this time it looks as if the trip will begin about the middle of next week.  Pray for safety on the highways and for those who will hear the Word of God, please.
New Policy:  All the time we have been in Romania we have had occasional lost mail.  Now, however, we are having increasing problems with the postal services.  Mail that we send to the U.S. often never arrives and things mailed to us are often lost forever.  It has been our policy to write a personal letter to each Church that sends a special offering, but now we never know if these get delivered.  So we are instituting a new policy.  Beginning this month, we will mention by name Churches or individuals that send special offerings.  The amount of each offering can be seen on the Financial Report page.  I hope the Churches will agree that, under the circumstances, this is the best way to handle getting out special thanks for special offerings.
Special Offerings:  Since our last writing, we have received special offerings from two Churches: Grace Baptist Church, Stanleyville, NC and Temple Baptist Church, Arcadia, FL.  We do thank you for your special help in the work here in Romania.
Filiasi:  Since our last writing we have not yet been able to find a suitable place to meet in Filiasi.  We do have a small apartment available for our use, but it is on the 4th floor of a building that has no elevator.  Last Sunday night the tiny apartment, which, of course, lacks air conditioning and even has no cross ventilation, was like a sauna in the almost 100 degree heat. So we are still praying and looking for a suitable place to meet.  Please pray with us about this need!
Bocsa: Since writing last, we have continued having visitors on occasion.  Two of our “regular” high-schoolers have been visiting family in Germany, but should return this week.  So our attendance holds pretty steady, though we are always making efforts to increase our attendance.  Brother Raul’s “grandmother” (really a great-aunt) celebrated this week her 82nd birthday.  We have given her a nickname that sounds funny in Romanian, “Sister Grandmother.”  She has been a follower of Christ many years and is faithful in attendance, is learning, and not afraid to take a stand against false religion.  “May her tribe increase!”
Literature:  This aspect of the work continues with special preparation for the upcoming mission trip.  We have shipped out today packages of our literature to Romanians in Spain as well as filling requests from Romania.  If we are allowed of God to do so, besides Gospel tracts, we will have a supply of Brother Cockrell’s IN SEARCH OF THE UNIVERSAL INVISIBLE CHURCH printed, gathered, folded, stapled, trimmed and packaged to go along on the upcoming mission trip for the brothers in various places.  Please be in prayer for this aspect of the work also.
Internet Site:  Not only have we had a small increase in “hits” on our website, some are taking our materials and placing them on “blog” sites.  Some comments on these blogs are less than complimentary, but surprisingly, some write that they agree with us!  We praise the Lord for this method of outreach also.  We do very much appreciate Brother James Reynolds, member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, Decatur, AL for his past and continued work on our site!
New Names:  We just learned this past week of some of the names we are being called by even some local preachers.  We have been denominated “Branhamites” as if we were followers of the late William Branham of Jeffersonville, IN.  He was a latter-rain prophet and is regarded by some as “Jesus Christ in a suit and tie.”  At the same time, we are called “Mormons.”  I cannot fathom why we are called these names as we have nothing to do with and nothing in common with either of those groups named!  I can only suppose it is a desperate attempt to try and discredit us.  It’s like politics!  Oh well, sticks and stones …  The enemies of the Gospel have not the power to persecute us except with their tongues and pens.
It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?” (Matthew 10:25)
I see that I am about out of space once again!  And again we want to thank you for your prayers, your interest in the work here, your cards, e-mails, letters and your faithful financial support – but especially are we grateful to you for your earnest prayers on our behalf!
    THANK YOU!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
