PRAYER LETTER FOR FEBRUARY, 2002
Wednesday, March 20, 2002
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen (Galatians 6:18).
If, in all we say and do, we are actually blessed with the “grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,” we are truly blessed and it is enough!
May this letter find each of us going about in that blessed condition!
February (and a big part of March) have been busy times for us here in Romania.  Thankfulness fills our hearts at the opportunities God has given for the preaching of the Word, for the new contacts, and for the continued interest in the literature.  We also have news about Janet's health.  First of all let me tell you about Janet's condition.  After reviewing films from the Tulsa surgeon, two apparently well qualified doctors in Budapest, Hungary, have concluded that Janet's dizziness, double vision, loss of vision, and loss of hearing are all a result of brain swelling after the first surgery in Tulsa.  She does indeed have another tumor, or perhaps a re-growth of the old one.  She is scheduled for another MRI in Budapest the 6th of May.  After that she will be scheduled for a one day, precisely aimed radiation therapy treatment.  This is a relatively new treatment, the doctors there having had eleven years of experience with this method.  There are supposed to be no side effects and little danger.  This is another area in which we must trust the Lord and ask for your prayers.
I often fail, in these letters, to express our appreciation to you for specific gifts and help.  I always fear
that I will omit something or someone if I begin such a practice and, most importantly, I know that those of you who do the many kind things that you do for us and for this missionary outreach, do these things for the Lord and not for any glory or praise of men.  However, in the past several weeks, so many kindnesses have been extended toward us that I feel we must mention some of these things.  First of all, our Sister Mary Ann Walls sent Janet some “filters” to be used on one lens of her eyeglasses. (Sister Walls is “Doctor Walls” – I don't know her exact title, but she is an eye doctor.)  The use of this filter has enabled Janet's double vision to be blocked so that while wearing her glasses she is not aware of double vision at a distance.  What a blessing this has been and continues to be to Janet!  In the past several weeks, I believe the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Granite Bay, CA., sent $1,000 to purchase books.  The first of these books have been purchased and are in the mail – we are anxiously awaiting these English language tools for the fledgling Bible Institute.  Not too long ago, several Churches gave especially to purchase the Risograph and other printing and binding equipment.  These we have and are using.  The Landmark Sovereign Grace Baptist Church of Ft. Worth, TX has recently given us $10,000 for a down payment on a house here in Romania.  (More about this later.)  And there are some Churches, who, by sending us their Church papers, “thinking of you cards” and brief notes of encouragement are a continual blessing and help to us here.  To all of you, and I hope I have omitted no one who has in this recent past time period helped us, we say a sincere “Thank You!”
Since coming to Romania we have rented a very drafty two-story house in Berzovia, a village without
running water or gas.  (We have a well and electric pump.)  Houses here are of all masonry construction
without insulation and so the walls are never warm in winter.  We use electric heat in the bathroom and laundry room to keep things from freezing in winter.  We have wood burning stoves for heat in the kitchen, bedroom and living room.  The stooping and lifting of firewood in making and replenishing fires when I am away is just about more than Janet can do in wintertime.  She has continual dizziness and has fallen once while tending a stove – thankfully, she did not fall into the hot stove.  Because she needs a one level house with better heating, we have been looking at houses in nearby Bocsa, a small city of about 25,000 people.  Rental units are just about unknown and are almost always in such poor condition as to not be serviceable.  There are several houses for sale, but selling a house on time is a foreign concept here.  We have located a good house, basically a kitchen and 3 rooms with a hall that can be made into a bathroom, thus putting everything on one level.  With a bathroom, new kitchen sink and central heating (hot water) it would wonderfully suit our needs. It is secure in that it has fences and gates in place, a garage, is in a quiet neighborhood away from the noise and dust of the principal street, and most importantly of all, is within our price range.  In dollars the price is $13,394.  God has, through one of His Churches, provided us with $10,000 as stated above.  We ask you to pray about this matter.  If the Churches are agreeable, we could use some monthly funds to make the needed renovations.
We believe God has raised up another young man to help us in the work here.  Aurel Miclea, Jr., is the
24 year old son of a deacon and an art student who is also into weight lifting.  I believe God has opened his eyes to many of those doctrines that we hold dear.  He is shy about speaking English, but does a very good job in written translation.  He is working on his second project for us.  Pray for Aurel and rejoice with us for his help.
I'm out of space, again, with much more to tell!  THANK YOU for your prayers and interest and
financial help!  May God supply all your needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus!
In the cause of God and truth,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
