PRAYER LETTER
FOR FEBRUARY, 2004
Friday, March 05, 2004
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that
are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be
with you all. Amen.” (Titus 3:15).
If
God’s grace is with us – and it is with all His blood-bought ones – we
have all we need in every area of our lives for, “how shall he not with
him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32).
Bocsa Mission:
Since our last report attendance has been about the same. Some who
were sick have regained a measure of health and are again attending.
The two sisters menetioned last month are still working in occidental Europe
and so are not present with us. We are preparing two evangelistic
tracts for distribution here in Bocsa. In the weeks ahead we plan
to visit every part of our city, speaking with the people and distributing
literature into every home. Please pray for this effort!
Oltenia Preaching Point:
We ask you to continue to pray for the health problems of Laurentiu, and
his mother, Elena. Both of these people are faithful to attend the
services. The people who regularly assemble have asked me to preach
a series on the subject of a Scriptural Church and it’s organization. This
I plan to begin Sunday. I believe one man has been really added to
the group while one who has attended for several weeks now will be leaving
for Italy as he has promise of work in that western country. We are
also rejoicing that the Brethren there are understanding of my need to
come to the U.S. for a time. They are anxious for me to return and
looking forward to their planned baptisms. (Right now the rivers
are raging with flood waters.)
Republic of Moldova:
We hear encouraging things from sources in this neighboring country to
the north east of Romania. Some people are really interested in our
literature. We are glad that the truth of God is being taught there
in a few places. However, the truth we love is being opposed
by many among the Arminian Baptist Union pastors. One unregistered
Baptist pastor is accused of bringing “rotten” literature into the Republic
– OURS! How the natural man, religious though he may be, hates the
free grace of God! Please pray for this pastor and our efforts in
that country.
Literature:
We continue to have requests for literature and CDs each week. Our
records show that we have given away more than 5,600 pieces of literature
since the first of the year! If this pace continues we shall distribute
free of charge more than 30,000 pieces of sound Baptist literature in the
calendar year of 2004. What a prospect! In the midst of all
that is happening, a Church in the U.S. that does not regularly support
us sent $1,000 for the Romania work. With that and a little more
we have purchased and now have in our print shop a new guillotine-type
paper cutter! We have felt the need for this piece of equipment for
some time now, and rejoice to have this tool to trim the books, booklets,
and tracts we produce. Praise the Lord with us!
Trip to the United States:
As of this writing, two Churches have contributed toward the cost of my
airfare to the States and two Brothers have each offered me the use of
a car while I am there! We are rejoicing in this provision of an
automobile in this way! The cost of renting one would amount to about
$1,000 or more monthly. I have already received several invitations
to come to Churches to preach and tell about the work, and some places
to stay have been offered as well. How good and gracious God is toward
this unworthy servant and how generous and kind are His people! Praise
the Lord with us for His provision thus far. We believe He will supply
that which is lacking in the necessary travel funds so that I can do the
work that is set before me.
The Work in Romania in My Absence:
We still plan on Janet remaining here while I come to the U.S. This
is not our first choice, but seems to be necessary. Thus someone
will be at the mission property as a “guard” all the while I am away.
The Brothers in Oltenia have indicated their happiness that Brothers Aurel
and Raul will come to them for services each Lord’s Day evening after the
services in Bocsa in the morning. As stated in my previous report,
the literature production and distribution can continue and some translation
work can proceed, though nothing is printed without my editing and approval.
The every-home evangelism effort mentioned above will continue as the Brothers
here use the literature designed for this purpose. In preparation
for leaving, I have had to replace a shifter bushing in the top of the
car’s transmission and one lower down as well. In addition the clutch
and throw-out bearing had to be replaced yesterday. I cannot go away
and leave those who work with me with a broken down car. Brother
Raul and Brother Aurel will need the car to travel weekly to Oltenia as
well as to get in supplies for both Janet and the work in Bocsa.
So we continue busily preparing for my travel to the United States – and
busily awaiting the return of our Lord Jesus Christ when we shall be like
Him for we shall see Him as He is! Thank you for your concern and
earnest prayers and your faithful and generous support of this missionary
enterprise. Pray, please, for the Pughs and the people to whom we
minister as well as those who labor with us here.
Pray, please, for the Pughs!
In the cause of God and truth,
Curtis and Janet Pugh
