PRAYER LETTER FOR FEBRUARY, 2008

Wednesday, March 12, 2008
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
We are always glad to communicate with you each month.  You are a very real and vital part of this missionary effort even though you may not be “on the field.”  Thank you for doing your part!
Bocsa and Filiasi:  Attendance continues about the same here in Bocsa with occasional visitors.  I have begun a series on the prophecies of Daniel.  Attendance has increased in Filiasi with returning visitors who seem genuinely interested in hearing the Word.  Pray especially for Brother Alex as he has begun attending with regularity these last several weeks.  Continue, please, to pray for Brother Virgil’s medical condition.
Medical:  Good news!  I have not had to return to Budapest, HU for blood since December 20,2007 because my hemoglobin level seems to have stabilized.  The hematologist doesn’t know what to think, but says this is all ‘wonderful.’  I will probably go to Budapest for a blood test and consultation there within two weeks or so.  As I wrote last month, I have lots of symptoms that don’t “fit” with myelodisplasia and nobody seems to know what to do about them.  But our Lord knows what He is doing and we rejoice and rely on that!  Thank you for your prayers regarding Janet’s health and mine!  Please keep praying.
Get Acquainted With Romania:  Sunday was the last day before the beginning of the Romanian Orthodox Easter fast.  While customs differ in different regions of the country, strict Orthodox people eat no meat (except fish and that only on Fridays and Tuesdays), no sweets, etc., until Easter.  You may remember I wrote last year about the old regional custom of fastening straw to wagon wheels, lighting them afire and rolling them down hills to scare the demons away.  Coming back from Filiasi this past Sunday night the modern version of this ancient custom was seen.  Alongside the highways and streets in the region of Oltenia were large tire fires.  We have in the past stopped to ask the people gathered around these burning tires the reason for this observance.  They could not tell us either the reason for their fires nor even the meaning of the words used to describe these activities.  Such is the religion of the majority of the Romanian Orthodox people!  Combined with this is the Orthodox attitude toward the Bible.  They regard the Bible as a holy book that ought not to be read by anyone other than holy men – their priests, of course.  So they know little about what the Bible says and often confound what is written in the Bible with their pagan traditions and stories.
Projects:  We expect within the next month or so to make at least two mission trips to cities where there are men with an apparent genuine interest in the truth.  A return trip to Cluj-Napoca is being scheduled and a first-time visit to Rosiori de Vede is also planned.  These are places where our literature has been well received and where men and women have expressed a desire that we come to minister to them.  Please pray for these interested people and for the mission trips planned.  Each of these places is about a six our drive away from us and a trip to Rosiori de Vede involves some very rough highways.  As always we request your prayers for our safety as we travel the dangerous highways here in Romania.
Russian Translation: The translator has, we believe, done a good job on translating Tom Ross’ outline of T. P. Simmons’ theology.  However, the one doing the checking / editing has gotten bogged down in other things and the project is delayed.  We are doing all we can to prompt them to get the work finished and ask for your prayers regarding this important project.  Hopefully the work will be completed within the next several weeks.  Then we can get the material to the Brothers in Siberia and in the Ukraine for their use.
Heating System:  In 2002 we put in the heating system here at the mission property.  The newest thing out for hot water heating systems then was a new kind of plastic composition pipe.  We have since learned that this pipe is not as good as had been advertised.  A visual inspection of these older pipes shows them to be cracking, so we have reduced the pressure on the hot water heating system to the minimum, trying to make them last as long as possible.  In fact, we have already had some leakage and splitting of these pipes and are going to have to replace them with soldered copper pipes.  This system furnishes heat to the living quarters as well as the office and print shop and also hot water for household use.  Please pray that the work will go well.
Binding Machine:  Some of you have been led of God to provide the funds and we have purchased the binding machine.  This machine is a well-built one and is used to punch slotted holes in pages to be bound and then holds the plastic combs open for the pages to be inserted.  A surplus has come in designated for this project and this money we have set aside in a fund to purchase the plastic combs needed for binding our courses and other materials that require this larger binding.  This fund is accounted for on the financial report page this month.  We do thank you for praying about this project and are grateful for those who were led of God to give so that we could purchase this needed piece of equipment and the supplies for it.
Risograph:  Perhaps you would be interested to know that the Risograph that many of you helped us purchase in 2002 is holding up well.  There have been no serious breakdowns with this digital duplicator.  It has a counter inside which now shows that this machine has made more than a million-and-a-half impressions!  We thank God not only for this machine that you purchased for our use in the work here, but also for the way it has held up!  It is in frequent use in producing tracts, booklets and study courses that we translate or write.
As always I am out of space before I am out of things to say.  The English language has many words in it, and I think I am fluent in it, but I can never feel that saying “Thank you” is adequate.  The words “grateful” and “appreciative” come to mind when we think of your faithful interest and prayer on our behalf and on behalf of the work here, but they do not seem to really express our joy and wonder as you stand with us – as you participate in this mission work.  So, as best we can, we say a heartfelt “Thank You” for standing with us!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
