PRAYER LETTER FOR FEBRUARY, 2009

Wednesday, March 17, 2009
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
You all are often in both our thoughts and prayers.  When we hear of illness or difficulties we pray for you.  Paul sets the example for us in our prayers in the above quoted verse: He desires that God’s grace would be with them all.  And that is what each of us needs!  Grace!  Supplying grace is needed, yes, but enduring grace as well.  “Grace be with you all” is our prayer for you as well.
Filiasi:  Attendance continues good in Filiasi.  Our oldest member, Brother Nicu, is out of the hospital and being treated with medication.  His doctor hopes surgery will not be necessary.  Brother Aurel Munteanu of Filiasi, a faithful brother, has the responsibility of caring for his aged grandfather at night and thinks that his grandfather is near death.  Please pray for these needs as well as for those other faithful people in Filiasi.
Bocsa:  Attendance has been up and down some here in Bocsa due to illness and bad weather.   We had a big accumulation of snow – 18 inches or more – and streets were perilous for a couple of weekends.  But we were able to continue with services and most of the regular ones continued faithful in their attendance.
Special Offering: This past month the Memorial Heights Baptist Church of Perry, Georgia sent a generous missionary offering for the work here in Romania.  Since we are never sure that our mail gets through to the States, we take this means of saying a special “Thank You” to them for this kind help.
Mission Trip:  We presently have 3 requests to come to various parts of the country in order to hold a series of preaching and teaching services in each place.  As God may provide the funds necessary, we are beginning to make plans for such a tour in the next month or two.  Please pray for safety in travel and God’s enabling so that we can make such a trip soon.
Literature:  As has been the case for many months, we continue to have works in progress – some already translated and undergoing the final checking – and others still in the first draft of translation.  We continue to receive requests for our literature.  Some requests come from those who have faithfully distributed our materials in the past and other requests from folk from whom we have not heard before.  We fill these requests as speedily as possibly.  Usually Brother Aurel is able to get them on the way the same day we receive them.
Bibles:  It has been and continues to be our happy privilege to distribute a significant number of Bibles and New Testaments – both in the Romanian language and in English.  Most Bibles and New Testaments that we distribute go to very poor areas where the person requesting them tells us that the people are not able to purchase the Scriptures for themselves.  Most of these Bibles and New Testaments we receive at no cost to us.  We trust that the hundreds we have distributed will bear fruit in the lives of God’s elect people here in Romania.
Get Acquainted with Romania:  The forty-day pre-Easter fast has begun in Romania.  Many people are quite strict about this – so much so that the grocery stores stock special non-meat items as well as meat substitute items at this time of year.  Some leaders in the Romanian Orthodox Church have cautioned the elderly and infirm, suggesting that they not observe the fast since doing so might be dangerous to their health.  It is sad that the purpose of this and other fasts in Romania is not devotion to the Lord Jesus, but rather an effort to merit salvation.  The people here, like so many in the U.S. talk about grace, but neither understand it nor really believe in God’s free grace.  The majority of Romanians have no biblical concepts of eternity either – among most Orthodox people, going to Heaven is not even spoken about.  Rather, at death they speak of “going to a green place.”  How sad that they have no hope and are without God in the world!
Medical: Since last writing I had to go to Budapest, Hungary for two units of blood.  I had previously gone a full year without needing blood and hope that God will be pleased to allow me to do without blood transfusions again.  Please pray with us about this.
Here I am – about out of space again!  We are full of praise to God and thankfulness to you all for your faithful financial help!  We count on your prayers and participation in this work so that we can remain here preaching and teaching the truths of God’s Word in these difficult days.
Please do not forget to pray for us! Thank you for all your help!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
