PRAYER LETTER FOR JANUARY, 2005

Saturday, February 05, 2005
Dear Pastors and Churches:
Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.” (Ephesians 6:24).
May God’s presence be yours in these days!
    Health News:
It seems I continue to improve, though slowly!  (Patience is needed here!)  Two days ago my hemoglobin count was up to 10.6 – before it was 10.3.  So we praise the Lord for this improvement!  My blood test still shows high “markers,” indicating that the inflammation is still present in my body, however.  I will have another blood test in two weeks, Lord willing.
    Regarding Janet:
A number of Churches and pastors including our own have indicated their interest in helping with the cost of Janet’s eye surgery.  Ridding her of double vision and restoring her depth perception can be done with a surgery so simple it is done on an outpatient basis!  The cost will be $8,100.00 plus the cost of a doctor’s exam and EKG.  (Earlier we were given a price of between $18,000.00 and $20.000.00, but this was reduced for cash payment.)  Later we hope to fit her (and me also) with new glasses before our return to Romania.  She will need to remain in the States for 6 weeks after the surgery in case of complications.  So, as soon as the funds come to us we plan on proceeding with the surgery in order to return to Romania sometime in March.  I will remain here with her.
    Plans:
I wrote to you last month that we hoped to be back in Romania sometime before the end of February, but it looks as if it will be March before we can return due to Janet’s surgery.
    Bocsa Meeting:
The visitors I wrote about last month continue to attend “adunarea baptistilor” – “the gathering of the Baptists” in Bocsa.  Last Lord’s Day, they, along with Brother Aurel and Brother Raul, stayed until 5:30 PM (from 9:30 AM) discussing the Bible together.  Brother Raul says these long times together are “great” and we believe the Lord may be beginning to add these Brothers to us.  They are learning much about grace and it sounds like they are “ruined” – grace has a way of spoiling you to the shallow preaching of Arminianism, you know.
    Oltenia Preaching Point:
Brother Raul has gotten his car fixed – at least partly – and expects to make trips to Oltenia on alternate Sundays once again as weather permits.  The interest there seems to be constant, though there has not been any numerical growth to my knowledge since we have been away.  Pray for the Brothers there, please.
    Other Places:
As I wrote last month, it is still much on my heart to travel to those places where our literature has gone and from whence strong invitations have been sent for us to come.  We will need God’s enabling for this as in all things.  I will also need strength to travel, but with the Lord is able!
    Literature Work:
We marvel and rejoice at what God is doing with the literature we produce.  Brother Raul informs me that in January alone we had requests for more than 3,500 pieces – and these requests they were able to fill.  He also tells me that there is a Romanian Baptist church in New York that now has my book “Three Witnesses for the Baptists” (in English) and two of our titles in Romanian (“The Trail of Blood” and “Myth of Freewill”) on their Internet site.
What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.” (Philippians 1:18).
We continue to anticipate our return to Romania!  We are trying to purchase some things for the work there and a few gifts for special people there as well.  We will continue to do this as we are able until we actually leave the United States.
Again we ask you to rejoice with us in God’s faithfulness! That He would use such unprofitable servants as we are thrills our souls and stirs great expectations within us for the future in Romania. We are indeed thankful that God has so moved in your hearts as to cause you to sustain us by your financial help and more importantly by your prayers.  Thank you!  Please continue to pray earnestly for us!  Please continue to pray for Brother Aurel and Brother Raul!  Once again we want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU for all your help and many kindnesses!
In the cause of God and truth,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
