PRAYER LETTER FOR
JANUARY, 2006
Thursday, February
16, 2006
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“Grace
be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen”
(EphESIANS 6:24).
Only
by the regenerating work of the Spirit of God does anyone really love the
Lord Jesus Christ! Man is not capable of loving Christ apart from
the “love of God which is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost
which is given unto us.” God provides everything we need – even
giving us the love that motivates our worship and service to Him!
What a great and all-wise God we serve!
Medical:
On FebRUARY 14th Janet was seen by the eye specialist in Szeged, Hungary.
He recommended some different eye cream and this is helping to keep her
eye moist without such frequent use of the expensive drops. He said
she was not in danger of loosing her eye and also that because of the dryness,
a corneal transplant was not advisable. He also recommended a young
ophthalmologist here in Romania. If this man will see Janet and indeed
seems to be qualified, it will mean no more trips to Hungary with all the
attendant expenses. Please continue to pray about this problem.
Otherwise we are doing OK for old folks.
Bocsa
Meeting: Our attendance has been down by one “regular” this past month.
Raul’s grandmother who faithfully attends our services has fallen and injured
her arm. This has kept her away from services, but as she is doing better,
we expect her to return soon. We have had one occasional visitor
and one young man who is not a member has faithfully attended these
past weeks.
Filiasi
Meeting: We have not been able to travel to Filiasi in Oltenia
for more than a month because of the car. One Lord’s Day three of
the Brothers there traveled all night by train to be with us in services
here in Bocsa and then returned on another all night train. They
were a blessing to us and we believe they went away helped. If the
weather permits we expect to make the trip to Filiasi next Sunday and to
resume our visits there.
Literature:
Requests for our publications continue to come in by letter, phone call,
and personal request. In January alone we distributed 5,444 pieces
of literature to people who asked for it! We have had to ask Raul’s
younger brother, Cristi, to help in the collating and folding-stapling
of the literature. We pay him a little which helps him with his high-school
expenses. He is a serious young man and does good work. In
this way Aurel is free to keep the Risograph busy duplicating the tracts
and booklets and do the packaging and mailing as well as other duties.
Please pray that God will use this literature according to His will!
Opportunities:
We rejoice that many Churches prayed for our needed car repair and that
the Lord laid it upon the hearts of some who could give to help us – and
they did. THANK YOU to all who prayed for this need and to those
who were able to give. The car is now safe to drive and while the
steering is still “sticky” and requires both hands on the wheel, it is
drivable. A new boot has been ordered for the right front CV joint
and some gaskets so that the mechanic can work on the steering box to complete
the necessary work. Considerably more money came in than was required
to fix the car. Several Churches indicated that we use the overage
as needed. With the approval of our Church (and the evident approval
of other Churches) we have set aside the overage in an emergency fund to
be used as needed in cases of unforeseen emergencies. We believe
this to be prudent. We walk by faith and trust God to supply every
need and believe He has provided these funds so that we can meet possible
future needs without bothering the Churches every time something happens.
We are not trying to have a lot of money on hand, but wish to be wise.
Janet’s
Realm: The washing machine continues to work but is making a loud noise
on spin. We think a bearing is going out. Asta I viata!
(This is life!) Cold weather has frozen pipes a couple of times,
but we were able to get them thawed out before they burst. Here in
Romania they put distilled water in both car batteries and radiators as
well. The dryer makes distilled water every time it is used and so
we are providing our friends with plenty of distilled water. We are
excitedly looking forward to our pastor, Brother Jerry Dodson, coming for
a visit in May and also looking forward to a visit from members of another
one of the Lord’s Churches in June. We are expecting these visits
to be like a cool drink of water on a hot day – refreshing!
Get
Acquainted with Romania: Don’t have much room, but thought you
might want to know where we are. Romania is as far north as New York,
Michigan, etc. and so far east as to be in the same time zone with Jerusalem!
Snow, like we are having today, is common in winter. Summer days
are hot, but cool at night.
Introducing:
Last month I introduced Brother Raul. This month I want to introduce
Brother Aurel Miclea to you. Aurel is 27 years old and a trained
artist with an interest in weight lifting / body building. In his
military service he was assigned to the “Jandarmaria” – a wing of the Romanian
military that serves as one of the police forces here. While Aurel
does some translation, his field of expertise is in using the computer
to format our publications in preparation for duplicating them. He
has designed many of the covers to our publications, often using original
artwork that makes them really attractive. He looks after most of
the Risograph work as well as other work necessary in the production of
our literature. Somehow, he also finds time to package and mail out
the literature that is requested almost daily. Of course this requires
some record keeping, so he is a busy young man. He is a talented
singer and helps by leading the singing here in Bocsa and other places
where we preach. He often brings a devotional in Sunday morning services
also. He shares in the chore of driving along with Raul and me when
we travel. This Brother is a real asset and a great help in the work
– all of us working together – including you – in this mission effort.
Pray for Aurel.
Thanksgiving:
We thank God for you! I had thought to possibly express our thanksgiving
for all of you who labor with us in prayer and in financial help at the
first part of my letter this month. You are so very often first in
our minds and prayers – and we want you to know of our appreciation for
your faithfulness. But this month I will close with words by which
I try to convey to you our gratitude for your laboring with us. THANK
YOU! Please continue to pray earnestly and often for all of us and
the spiritual needs here in Romania!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
Curtis and Janet Pugh
