PRAYER LETTER FOR JANUARY, 2007

Wednesday, February 14, 2007
Dear Pastors and Churches:
All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
What a great and glorious Sovereign has made Himself known in a small measure unto us!  How great is His mercy and grace toward the sons of men!
A Question Answered:  There was an expense of $160 listed on last month’s report headed as “repair damage neighbor’s car.”  I apologize for not explaining last month.  While backing out of our long driveway and negotiating around some illegally parked cars, I backed into a neighbor’s car.  The car, a little Romanian Dacia, suffered a stove-in left rear door.  (I think it may have been illegally parked as well.)  The rear bumper on the Nissan suffered some marks that I think can be rubbed out with a bit of compound.  Of course I immediately located the car owner and agreed to repair the car as it was my fault for backing into it.  And so this is the $160 expense listed last month.
Bocsa Meeting:  We have had more visitors here in Bocsa since my last letter, some of them first time, but most are returning visitors.  I preached this past Lord’s Day on repentance and how that “godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation.”  One or two of those present were obviously affected by the preaching and hope that God is working in them to bring them to Christ.
Filiasi Meeting: For various reasons we had to be absent from Filiasi for a couple of Sundays, but upon our return last Sunday we were met by 12 adults anxious for us to preach to them.  The meetings held by the Brothers in our absence have been better attended in these last weeks also.  Two younger women and one older were present and all the men were younger than 30 other than dear old Brother Nicu, the host who allows us to meet in one of the rooms of his house.
Winter Theological School:   The Winter School goes well, it seems, though the men have found work due to the break in the weather.  Seven men began the course and two have had to drop out, but have been replaced by two new men.  These new brothers have been full of questions as could be expected due to the earlier parts of the course which they missed.  I think it is to the credit of the others that they have been able to answer the many questions asked by these newer students!  Praise the Lord for what they have learned!  We are still planning on going there for a 3 or 4 day session with them, dealing with Church-truth, at the earliest opportunity to be determined by when they can meet with us and when we can go.  Please be in prayer about this matter.
New Legislation:  We have heard of no problems arising as yet from the new legislation regarding “cults” in Romania.  Your payers are requested as we continue with our work in light of this new law.
Financial Information:  I want to express a special THANK YOU to those of you who are praying for us and to those of you who have been enabled and led of God to help us especially during this time.  And I want to say also a heartfelt thank you to those of you who have begun to support Brother Raul and Brother Aurel.  They are amazed and praising the Lord that you have been raised up to help in this way.  For the first time they are receiving a near decent compensation for the many hours they put in doing all that must be done in the work here.
Literature:  We continue to receive requests for literature from various parts of the country and from other countries in Europe – from those in the Romanian Diaspora.  Most of these requests are for gospel tracts and we are happy to supply these as requested.  In addition, work on the completion of the course on sovereign grace continues and I have begun a course on Church truth – something different, a chronological study of the Churches from the first one, dealing with how Churches are started, their authority, ordinances, government, etc., etc.  I request your earnest prayers on behalf of the work going toward the completion of these two courses.  Besides our personal use in teaching these courses, the outline studies with questions will be made available to others after we publish them in booklet form.  Of course we aim to do these things if God enables us to do so, so we must say, “If the Lord wills” of course.
Get Acquainted With Romania:  You must understand that many English words have been incorporated into use in Romania.  We have, for instance, signs that say “Non Stop Bar” and use “taxi” and “dial up” and others in various ways.  Please understand also that there are vast differences between life in the rural villages and life in the cities.  The cities move at a hurried pace while village life is more in step with the seasons; more relaxed with less concern for fixed hours and deadlines.  The following is a true story and reflects the village attitude very well.  An old woman from a village visited a city and saw a sign that said “Fast Food.”  Not understanding these strange words, she stopped a passerby and asked their meaning.  On having the words translated into Romanian, she replied with a question: “But why do you want to eat fast?”  Perhaps all of us would benefit from less “Fast Food” and less “fast eating” – and other hurry and stress in our lives.  There are good things left behind in the villages and replaced with not-so-good things that are more up-town and more occidental.
As I am about out of space, again, let me state again our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all who pray for us and to all who so very generously give to support this work.  As I write, Brother Aurel has just returned from the post office with a letter from a young man who is a student in one of the seminaries for Romanian Orthodox priests.  Someone gave him our booklet by C. D. Cole on THE BIBLE DOCTRINE OF ELECTION.  He asks for more information on this and related doctrines.  A package, Lord willing, will be mailed to him tomorrow.  What an opportunity!  Pray for all the aspects of our labors, and for this young man, please.
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
