PRAYER LETTER FOR
JULY, 2006
Thursday, August 24, 2006
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that are
with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with
you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
Greetings
to all of you from Romania! Let me explain why this prayer letter
is so late: Our pastor, Brother Jerry Dodson, has been visiting the work
here during “report time.” We have been preaching in various places
and busy with many other things and wanted to write to you after his visit
so we could report on that and after we received the bank statement so
that we could furnish the regular financial report.
Bocsa
and Filiasi Meetings: I combine my comments on both these regular
preaching points as the attendance in both places has been good with an
increase in visitors in both locations. Brother Dodson preached 3
times in Bocsa and two Sundays in Filiasi while he was here. He was
well received – the Brothers were glad to meet our pastor. God blessed
His Word and the fellowship! I think both brotherly love and divine
love was in evidence. Several of the Brothers had questions for Brother
Dodson and were helped by his answers. We praise the Lord he was
able to visit and see the work.
Literature:
Besides filling requests for literature by mail, we have carried literature
with us to some places since our last writing as we have made several visits
and two preaching tours. Being busy with travels and other things,
we have not printed any new items since our last report – and for some
time before, as we have been concentrating our work on supplying needed
gospel tracts.
Preaching
Tours: God laid upon the hearts of some of you the need for funds
to enable us to make some preaching tours and I trust many of you prayed
for us regarding this. Travel is expensive as fuel, meals and lodging
all had to be purchased first for 3 men and then for four. Just prior
to Brother Dodson’s arrival, Aurel and Raul and I traveled to Bucuresti
and then on to the Braila area in eastern Romania. After Brother
Dodson’s arrival, all of us again went east to the Black Sea city of Constanta
and the Braila area again as well as west to the city of Arad in order
to confer with preachers and to preach. Raul’s work, as usual, was
in translation both for preaching and speaking with preachers and other
leaders. Of course Brother Dodson preached using Raul as translator.
Brother Aurel has an excellent baritone voice and helped much in the music.
Driving is a chore the three of us share. In our time with Brother
Dodson and the earlier tour, we met and talked at length with 6 pastors
and leaders as well as meeting two men who are active in distributing our
literature. The Word of God was preached and the people seemed to
be helped. They certainly gave evidence of genuine interest.
A
Disappointment: As all who labor in spiritual things will testify,
there are disappointments along the way. A Brother who had used our
literature and was meeting with about 20 people in his home came to the
conclusion that he was not called to preach and as God did not raise up
a preacher among the group, became discouraged. He influenced the
group to go back to a Baptist Union church: this in a large city to the
east of our location. He still wants to distribute our literature
and we shall remain in contact with him, knowing that the battle is the
Lord’s and that the last chapter has not been yet written in his life nor
in the lives of the 20 or so people he was leading. Pray for these
folk!
Janet’s
Realm: What a joy it is to have visitors from home! Brother
Cletus and Sister Mary Ann Snyder, members of Grace Baptist Church, Stanleyville,
N.C, visited us during the month of July. I probably talked Sister
Mary Ann’s ears off – but what a delight to have an American woman, a sister
in the Lord, to talk with! She and Brother Cletus were blessings
to our home and to each Brother and Sister whom they visited with here.
And then, later, to have our own pastor visit us – his first visit to Romania!
I don’t know how good the food was, but I tried to prepare “down home”
cooking for all. While we are lonely now that our American visitors
have gone, we remain encouraged in the Lord because of their fellowship.
Y’all come back now, y’hear!
New
Support: As our pastor writes in his report on his visit to Romania,
the Grace Baptist Church of Stanleyville, N.C. has voted to begin supporting
both Aurel and Raul on a monthly basis. These two full-time workers
are worthy of their hire and we rejoice in this beginning of support for
them. They have been being paid a token salary from general
work funds. We believe they ought to receive a fair wage for the
many hours each week that they put into the work here. My prayer
is that after you read Brother Dodson’s report, others of you might be
moved to begin regular monthly support for these two dependable workers
who love the truth and stand for it amongst great opposition. As
their support increases to a reasonable level, they will no longer be paid
from work funds, thus allowing more money for other aspects of the work.
If you desire more information about these young men and their needed support,
contact either Brother Dodson or me.
As I come to the close of this letter, I want to express our thanks to
God for you all and your faithful financial support – and your prayers
on our behalf. We are always grateful to you and amazed at what the
Lord leads and enables you to do for the work here. We know that
many of you are not rich nor are your Churches filled with a surplus of
money, but you continue faithfully to give and to pray for us here in Romania.
Surely God will bless you for your faithfulness and sacrificial giving!
Thank you for your “holding the rope” for us in so many ways!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
Curtis and Janet Pugh
