PRAYER LETTER FOR JULY, 2007

Thursday - August 09, 2007
Dear Pastors and Churches:

All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
All of us here rejoice to know that there are some who “love us in the faith!”  And that love is reciprocal!  You are often in our thoughts and in our prayers daily.
Medical:  I reported to you last month about the success of the steriod that I took.  But as you may have heard, the side effects were really bad.  Shortly after the treatment that made me feel so good, I began to hemorrhage from the stomach.  The hemorrhaging stopped suddenly and for this as in all things we give our Sovereign God the credit and glory!  As a result of the blood loss, my hemoglobin, which is usually low anyway, dropped to 4.2 and this made me almost without strength.  Brother Raul drove me about 3½ hours to Szeged, Hungary and an emergency room where they kept me most of 2 days and gave me a total of 7 units of whole blood.  Almost immediately I felt OK.  An appointment with a hematologist is to be scheduled.
Bocsa and Filiasi:  In both locations visitors come from time to time – and some return.  Some are satisfied with their alien immersions, but enjoy hearing grace preached and others are not saved.  We try to feed them the Word of God.  The Brothers there conduct services and teach when we cannot be there.  We ask your prayers for one of the licensed preachers at Filiasi: Brother Virgil.  He has some continual and serious health problems and the doctors do not seem to be able to do anything for him.  The newlyweds, Aurel (of Filiasi) and his wife, Estera (Esther) are now expecting their first child!  Pray for them, please.  Estera works in a very hot bakery and her hours are from 1:00 AM until 9:00 AM so she must try to rest during the daytime.  Aurel works at construction, usually in the city of Craiova, about 20 miles distant from Filiasi.
U.S. Trip:  We had asked you to pray and the Churches involved have prayed and we believe the will of God has been done.  The visa agents at the U.S. Consulate in Bucharest have rejected a second time the applications of Brother Aurel and Broter Raul.  So they cannot travel to the U.S. as we had hoped.  Because their income is so low and they lack important positions and significant real estate holdings, they cannot satisfy the U.S. visa agents that they would return to Romania if they were allowed to enter the United States.  So they were denied the privilege of traveling to America.  We thank you for praying about this and thank Grace Baptist Church of Stanleyville, N.C. for their financial backing of these applications and all the expenses involved.
Van Fund:  God has moved upon several of His Churches and as of the date of this letter, we have $20,000 on hand to purchase a used van!  How we praise the Lord for this! Due to high prices and the continued and worsening low value of the U.S. dollar, we estimate that we will need about $24,000 to purchase a good second-hand van with 9 seats – and we are almost at that target amount.  We are in the process of transferring this money to Romania where we are buying Euros as they are the most stable currency right now and are the currency used in making such large purchases.  Pray that the right van can be found, please!
Russian Literature Project:  Your love for the Lord, His truth, and our Brothers and Sisters in Russia and the Ukraine has flourished and we now have sufficient funds to pay for the translation and printing of Elder Tom Ross’ outline study of T. P. Simmons’ Systematic Study of Bible Doctrine.  We thank all of you for praying and are grateful to those of you whom God enabled and led to give to this project.  The translation should be completed sometime this Fall.  Praise the Lord!
Special Trip:  In September there is to be an important ecumenical conference in Sibiu, a city in central Romania.  Brother Raul has done much research and has written an expose’ of this movement and the Romanian Baptist Union’s involvement in it.  Brother Nicu of Filiasi has a burden to travel by train to Sibiu during this big meeting.  There he plans on distributing our gospel tracts and hopefully some copies also of the article against ecumenicalism written by Raul.  Pray, please, for his safety and that God will give him open doors to speak to many and to be able to distribute much gospel literature while there.  Brother Nicu was, you may remember, a drunkard for many years, but now God has turned his life around and he is zealous for the Lord and His truth!
Winter Theological School:  I suppose we ought to change the name of our school in the eastern part of the country, as it is now going on all year.  The men are busy in construction, some working together as a team, on various projects in different locations.  While they cannot meet as often or as long as during the winter, 8 of them continue to meet studying our course on the doctrine of grace.  They are asking for us to come and meet with them to discuss questions that they have on this and the subject of scriptural baptism.  We hope to be able to go in the next month or so.  Some, we believe, are earnest about following the Lord.
Conferences:  Several men have received our literature and after reading it have questions on the Bible truths presented.  A few of them are pastors.  As it is so expensive for the 3 of us (Raul, Aurel and me) to travel by car, plus the fact that my health condition presently necessitates the rental of hotel rooms, we are planning on Brother Raul and Brother Aurel making some trips by train to confer with these men.  In many cases they will be able to stay in the homes of those with whom they meet.  Often these are many flights up in apartment buildings without elevators.  My anemia will not allow me to climb many stairs, but the men are young and healthy and able to do so and are knowledgeable in the Word and well able to answer the questions put to them.  We believe this will be an efficient use of the money available and that such conferences will be spiritually profitable in promoting the truth of God’s Word in various parts of Romania.  Pray about this, please!
Again, I am out of space before I am finished!  Thank you for reading our reports and for your interest and help in the work here.  We depend upon the Lord and trust Him to work through you all in enabling us.  In this way we are truly workers together.  Pray for us as God brings us to your mind, please!
    Pray for us here, please!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
