PRAYER LETTER FOR JUNE, 2008

Wednesday, July 16, 2008
Dear Pastors and Churches:

“All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
Greetings to all of you in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ!  Grace be with you!
Meetings, Conferences:  Since our last letter another mission trip has been completed.  Again, due to expenses, I was not able to go, but Brothers Raul and Aurel were away in meetings Sunday through Thursday, June 22nd through Friday, June 27th.  Meetings were held in 3 locations during this period of time with good attention to the Bible preaching and teaching.  Literature was also distributed to interested persons.  Results are in God’s hands, of course, but we see evidence of His work in that some people are standing for the truth and are wanting scriptural baptism / Church membership.  It is a fact that organized religionists oppose these people, but they continue to stand.  Pray for them, please!
Visitors:  Both in Filiasi and in Bocsa we have had returning and first time visitors since our last letter.  Attendance in Filiasi has grown as some visitors are becoming regular in their attendance.  To visit our services almost always brings down the wrath of the worldly religious leaders of the various groups, so we ask for your prayers for those who dare to attend our meetings.
Baptisms: At present there are 4 adults who have verbally expressed a desire for baptism.  There are at least 9 others who regularly attend our meetings whom we know need Scriptural baptism.  There may be others to whom God will make known His will in this matter. We have an outdoor baptistery that the brothers constructed in Filiasi and expect to use it as other baptisteries are not available to us and the Romanian rivers are the most polluted in Europe.  We have been searching for a portable baptistery and have even considered a small inflatable swimming pool.  A more substantial fiberglass tank would require some kind of trailer to transport it and space to use it – a problem when people live in the old Communist-style apartment blocks or whose houses have no space around them for a portable pool or a tank.  Pray for the people needing baptism, please!
Church Organization:  We are preparing to organize a new sovereign grace missionary Baptist Church here in Romania.  At present we have 5 adult men, all scripturally baptized, who desire to be organized into a Church.  They are well taught in the Scriptures and we are presently preaching messages regarding the more practical aspects of Church life.  Toward that end we are preparing our Church’s doctrinal statement and a Church covenant in the Romanian language.  We think it best to organize the new Church first and then to allow them to baptize those of their families and neighbors presently awaiting baptism.  These men have made it clear that they want me to continue to preach to them as I have occasion and to help them as I am able.  This is a big step for them!
Medical:  Janet and I are about the same, health-wise.  My hemoglobin remains stable.  We made the trip to Budapest and I was examined by the dermatologist and lab work started.  A week later I received word of a prescription that I need and the prescription was mailed to me and after a trip to nearby Szeged, Hungary I now have it.  Treatment has begun and we wait to see the results.
Summer Projects:  The painting of the windows and doors at the rear of the mission property has been completed!  We still have concerns about the needed fence, the cracks in the outside walls of the building, the leaky old windows, the winter tires needed and the needed central heating unit.  I wrote about these things in last month’s prayer letter.  We ask you to continue to pray about these concerns.
Russian Translation:  We are happy to announce that the Russian translation project is completed and in the hands of the brothers in Siberia. I refer to T.P. Simmons’ book, SYSTEMATIC BIBLE DOCTRINE as outlined by Elder Tom Ross.  We have also transferred the final payment to the translators in the Republic of Moldova, and have also forwarded the $500 for the printing of the book to Siberia. (All this is reflected in the current financial report – special section.)  However, there is one problem.  So much time has expired since the estimate of the cost of printing was made that another $100 is required to print the book.  The problem is compounded because in order to get $100 to the brothers in Siberia, it costs $40 to make the bank to bank transfer in the U.S. and the Russian bank charges $30 to receive the money and put it in the proper account.  So the total needed is the $100 plus another $70 in bank charges.  If additional funds are not forthcoming from the Churches for this purpose, we will meet the cost of the $170.  Perhaps some others would want to not only help with this cost, but make up a financial gift for the needs of the preachers in Siberia so that we could transfer a larger sum to them for the same cost.  It seems a shame to spend $70 just to give them $100 when they could get more money for the same price.  I don’t know if this is a good idea or not, but ask you all to pray about this, please.  Funds marked for the purpose would need to be in our Louisiana bank account by the end of August in order to do this.  The brothers in Siberia have not asked for this, I just know a little about their poverty, their needs and their faithful stand for the Word of God.
I see that I am about out of space once again!  Please know that we are full of thankful praise to the Father for your faithful help in this missionary effort.  So, to each Church and to each individual that help us with your financial gifts, your cards, letters and e-mails, and most of all, your prayers, we say a heartfelt THANK YOU!  Please continue to pray for the Pughs and Brother Raul and Brother Aurel.
Our prayers for you are that God will bless and use you all in your places of service to Him!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
