PRAYER LETTER FOR
MARCH, 2002
Saturday, 20 April,
2002
Dear Pastors and Churches:
Warmest greetings in the Name of the One Who loved us and gave Himself
for us! “…how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
(Romans 8:32.) “According as his divine power hath given
unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness through the knowledge
of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” (2 Peter
1:3.)
Our faith rests upon His promises! May this report find each of you
well and rejoicing in the great promises of God's free grace to His elect!
Since last writing we have had to make three trips to see the doctor in
Budapest, Hungary, but believe that I am now on the proper medication –
one I took with success when we lived in Canada. Because the water
is not always safe to drink here, I have not been drinking nearly enough
and so am making a determined effort to drink at least 3 liters of bottled
water daily as per the doctor's instructions. Janet has been having
increased dizziness and has fallen twice when putting firewood in the stove.
The latest MRI done in Budapest shows that her tumor has returned, but
that it has NOT grown since December. The doctors say the cause of
her dizziness, loss of hearing, and loss of vision is NOT the tumor, but
rather a lesion in the brain that occurred after her first surgery in Tulsa.
Probably little can be done except that God be pleased to remedy the situation.
Specific, precise radiation treatment might help, but might also do additional
damage, so the suggestion of the medics is that we wait and see if the
tumor grows more. If not, let things alone. She is to return
to the doctor for another MRI in 6 months. She continues working
on children's materials, teaching English 6 times a week (on Thursdays
and Fridays) and looking after the house and me. Please continue
to pray for her!
Progress has been made toward the purchase of the house and we await only
the completion and arrival of the necessary funds. Then we must begin
with renovations. The owner and his wife have decided to sell us
the piano that is in the house. It is old, but seems to be a good
one. A price has not yet been arrived at, but we believe it will
be very cheap. They will also sell some furniture that we need.
Houses here do not have closets and so something like “wardrobes” are necessary
both for folded clothing and hanging items. (Chests of drawers are
something new, I think, and almost non-existent!) We have been using
older furniture borrowed from our present landlord for most of our storage
needs.
We have purchased a significant amount of paper and transported it in preparation
for additional publications as they are ready. Also in May we plan
on publishing the first edition of THE BAPTIST VOICE (Vocea Baptista),
a collection of healthy Baptist articles, translated, of course, into Romanian.
I am sure we can easily distribute 5,000 copies in two months - we expect
to publish only 6 times a year, at least in the beginning. As far
as we have been able to ascertain, in spite of the number of publications,
there is not one sound Baptist paper published in Romania.
There may be, but if so, it is unknown to us. Each one seems to be
promoting some extra Biblical organization and busily engaged in promoting
currently popular religious fads rather than Bible truth.
We also have more open doors for the production and distribution of CDs.
We have before supplied some pastors with copies of THE WORD Bible Study
Program from Online Bible. This material is copyrighted, but may
be reproduced as long as it is not done so for profit. We have now
the opportunity to supply more pastors with this material (which includes
all Gill's works, material by Spurgeon, Pink and others). But we
are especially interested in the opportunity to provide these and other
materials to 82 – yes EIGHTY-TWO - Bible Institute students who read English.
We are in process of duplicating not only the Bible study program, but
our own collection of materials (full length books and shorter articles)
by B. H. Carroll, Pink, Benedict, J.T. Christian, Graves, Spurgeon, T.P.
Simmons and others. Our collection includes also a host of articles,
tracts, etc., written by sound, sovereign grace missionary Baptist writers
– living and dead – men you know and read after. Each person will
receive a set of at least three CDs
filled with good sound
Biblical, Baptist writings on all sorts of subjects relating to doctrine
and practice.
Please pray that God
will use these books and articles for great good in the lives and ministries
of these young men!
We want to express our praise to God and our appreciation to each of you
who pray for us earnestly and to those who have given especially to help
in the purchase and renovation of the house in Bocsa (BOK shah).
One thing I did not mention about the house before, there is an “anexa”
– the summer kitchen and meat / firewood room which in combination are
large enough to serve as office/institute library/print shop. Both
have a cement floor and require plastering and installation of a ceiling,
doors, etc. These are not expensive things to do as local materials
and labor are available at Romanian prices. (It is imported stuff
that is expensive.) By doing this we can put to better use the monthly
rent we now pay for the office. It is by your help in prayer and
giving that these open doors of opportunity for the truth can be stepped
through. We are trying to do all that we can to seize every opportunity
for the LORD.
THANK YOU, again, for your faithful generous help and your many kindnesses
toward us.
In the cause of God and truth,
Curtis and Janet Pugh
