PRAYER LETTER FOR MARCH, 2004

Saturday, April 10, 2004
Dear Pastors and Churches:

All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.” (Titus 3:15).
We pray for Christ’s churches daily and trust that you are blessed with the presence of Christ which is the greatest encouragement possible.
    Bocsa Meeting:
Attendance for the past month was about the same.  Our “regulars” faithfully attend except when illness keeps them away.  As a result of our literature distribution, two men have contacted us in the past few days asking about our service times.  Whether they will visit us yet remains to be seen, but we trust that God will add to the attendance here in the days ahead.  Special literature will be produced in my absence, inviting local people to our services.  These gospel brochures will be distributed house to house.
    Oltenia Preaching Point:
Driving the 4+ hours to and from the meeting in Oltenia over really bad and broken up roads is not a blessing in itself, but it is a great joy and blessing to fellowship with the people who gather each Sunday evening there.  (They also meet Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings for prayer and Bible study among themselves.)  These people, though they have little, are enthusiastic for the truth and zealous to spread it.  They are filled with questions so that a special time is set aside after the prayer, singing and preaching – an informal time when they can ask Bible questions.  The oldest Brother there has taken upon himself a ministry of going by train to various localities in southern Romania and there at the depots and in the cities and towns, going about speaking to people about spiritual things and giving away our literature.  At times he sleeps in or around the depots until the heavy passenger traffic on the morning trains begins to arrive, beginning his witnessing then.  And just a few years ago he was a drunk without hope!
    Republic of Moldova:
We have wanted to make a return trip to the Republic of Moldova for some time in response to invitations from people there, but have not been able to do so.  We continue to send literature there as we receive requests.  We are limited in our literature packages to two kilograms each and the cost is just over $12 U.S. for each one.  A Brother there has offered to serve as a “warehouseman” for us.  The idea being that we would transport by car a significant amount of our literature to him in packages which he could re-mail from within the Republic.  Postage rates from within Moldova are very cheap and this would constitute a significant savings.  (We would need to supply him with a small amount of money for the postage.)  Requests for literature would come to us and we can forward addresses to him by e-mail.  This could possibly be an enlargement of our literature ministry and so we ask you to pray that God will give us wisdom and enable us to step through this door if it is His will.
    Literature:
We continue to reprint and ship out the titles we have completed in Romanian.  Occasionally we purchase or are given good materials from other sources and distribute these also.  Brother Raul is about halfway through with the initial translation of John T. Christian’s History of the Baptists Volume 1.  The sound Baptist history contained in this book is greatly needed here now.  This is a part of the work he will continue in my absence and the editing will be done upon my return from the U.S
    Trip to the United States:
I am scheduled to fly from Budapest, Hungary next Wednesday, the 14th of April.  I recently received a good report from the specialist in Hungary – he could find nothing wrong, including no lymphoma that he has suspected.  However, he asked me to follow up with blood work  within a month and so my plans are these.  After picking up the car Brother Flinchum is loaning me in Kentucky, I will “preach my way” to Oklahoma and get the blood work done at the Talihina Indian Hospital and continue visiting among the Churches from that point.
We solicit your interest and earnest prayers that God will guide us in the matters to be resolved in my visit to the United States.  We need the guidance and leadership of the Holy Spirit as we never have before.  Pray also for Janet and Brother Aurel and Brother Raul as they continue in the work here while I am away.
    Pray, please, for the Pughs!
In the cause of God and truth,
