PRAYER LETTER FOR MARCH, 2008

Tuesday, April 15, 2008
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
We appreciate very much for your love for us!  Your love as has been expressed this month of March in special financial help has been very encouraging!  I want to thank you personally for the special offerings sent to Brothers Raul and Aurel.  Not only did you help us greatly, but you helped them also!  I know that they struggle to get by like many of us do.  Your sacrifices greatly encouraged them this month.  They are faithful in all aspects of the work and worthy of your support!  Pray for them as they labor many hours each week!  They are busy not only with production of literature, but in travel, correspondence, preaching and doing all they can to promote the truth as well as helping in every way.
Finances:  I don’t know of any missionary, home or foreign, that is complaining, but I am sure many are “tightening their belts” as probably you are too.  Rising prices and a weaker U.S. dollar mean less work funds and more to pay out.  Pray for all of us here that we may be wise in the decisions we must make as we seek to continue to go forward with less to spend in the work during these days.
Bocsa and Filiasi:  Attendance remains steady in the Bocsa meeting and has increased some in Filiasi.  One new man is now attending with regularity in Filiasi.  Other “regular” visitors attend also.  Bro. Nicu is out of the hospital and doing well on prescribed medication.  Bro. Virgil still has medical problems and is reluctant to see a doctor.  Bro. Aurel of Filiasi had a cancerous growth removed from his right eyelid and is home from the hospital and doing well.  The two new babies, Denisa and Stefan, are doing well as are their respective mothers.  All here send greetings and thanks to you for your part in the work.
Mail:  Brethren, please take note of this situation.  We continue to have problems with the mail here in Romania.  Mail sent to us never arrives in some instances and mail sent by us to the U.S. does not always get through either.  We want you to know that when you send special offerings to our Church or when you write to us, we do reply.  We write thank you letters and mail them, but are not sure they get to their respective destinations.  Some mail to our home Church does not get through and vice-versa.  We know when this happens, but we cannot know about your mail to us and ours to you.  So we ask your understanding.  If you haven’t heard from us personally on any matter, please let us know!  Mail takes about two weeks to a month to get to us.
Extraordinary Expenses:  We are not asking for special help, but just want to inform you that since our last writing we had to make repairs to the Nissan.  This is reflected in this month’s financial report.  (We are still waiting on the Romanian government to decide how much they are going to reduce the initial registration fee so we can register the van.)  As we mentioned last time, our plastic potable water pipes and hot water heating pipes began to disintegrate!  We have gone ahead and replaced the pipes throughout the mission building with copper.  These should not cause us any problems for years.  (This expense will be reflected in next month’s financial report.)  The central heating unit will need to be replaced by Fall, so we have time to accumulate some funds for that project.  We just ask for your prayers regarding these things as God brings us to mind.  God did answer prayer regarding the plumbing and the men did an excellent and attractive job!  We were without running water for only 3 or 4 days.
Medical:  As I wrote last month: “I have not had to return to Budapest, HU for blood since December 20,2007 because my hemoglobin level seems to have stabilized.”  I will have a simple blood test later this week to learn if the hemoglobin is actually increasing.  Some of my symptoms have left and it is great to have relief from them, though I am still somewhat weak and short of breath – but not as bad as before.  Janet still must cope with dizziness, but her eyes seem to be a little better.  She is able to use fewer drops at times and is doing without the contact lens now.  Join us in praising the Lord in these matters that have gotten better and pray that God will continue to give us grace to serve Him.
Get Acquainted With Romania:  Catholic Easter is past and Orthodox Easter has not arrived yet, but the stores are beginning to advertise meats and meat products as people are looking forward to the end of the long Orthodox fast.  Wines and other alcoholic beverages are also being promoted and will be consumed in great quantity as soon as Easter arrives.  Traditionally, the people buy and eat lambs at this feast.  Whole lambs, heads and all, are displayed in markets and even hanging alongside some highways at this time of year.  Romania has gotten very modern of late with boiled eggs – already colored – for sale in the stores.  These eggs are in memory of Saint Veronica and her eggs.  Remember, her eggs were colored by the blood of Christ dripping on them as she stopped at the cross on the way to sell her eggs.  At least that is the Romanian Orthodox tradition.
Early flowers are blooming in Romania.  Brothers Aurel and Raul and their respective families have completed planting their potato crops now.  Leaf-lettuce is up and onions are planted and growing already.  Most Romanians depend on their garden produce so as to have food to eat.  Some people have already planted corn.  Cabbage and other vegetables will be planted later.  Needless to say, temperatures in our area are above freezing and we are having rain.
As always I am out of space before I am out of things to say.  I wish you could visit us and see not only the need for the truth in most places, but also the difference Christ has made and is making in the lives of some.  Thank you for helping in this work – both financially and by your earnest prayers!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
