PRAYER LETTER FOR MAY, 2003

Tuesday, June 10, 2003
Dear Pastors and Churches:

"Grace to you and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ' (Philippians 1:3).
What more can we want than those two things which Paul desired in his letter? Possess all that you may, without saving grace and soul satisfying peace for this present life, of what value are possessions? But with Christ life is worth living! May and the first of June have been one of those difficult periods, but God has seen us through it! We have not been faced with major trials, but lots of little difficulties common to all of us. Car repairs, computer problems (which continue to this date), and two emergency trips to Budapest, Hungary for medical reasons are some of the little things we faced this past month. But God was gracious in all these things and we have been able to go forward with various projects. (The medical trips were necessary in that my left eye, which had been irritated for some weeks, grew worse and developed an edema so that the protective covering separated from the white of the eye in one place. After consultations with three doctors and now that I am using the third different prescription medication, it seems to be getting better and the doctors assure me there is no danger to my vision at this time.)
The mission "Adonaree Baptistilor" (Meeting of the Baptists) here in Bocsa meets Wednesday evenings. Sunday mornings and Sunday afternoons. Our attendance has remained basically constant this past month and the people seem genuinely interested in the truth of the Word of God; and, praise the Lord, they are standing firm in the midst of much opposition from families and Arminian zealots. Our greatest number in attendance since my last writing has been 14, all adults except one teenager and one pre-teen. I am doing all I can to feed the sheep the Word through expository preaching and teaching of Bible books. I have completed teaching through the Book of Jude and the Book of Malachi. Brother Raul has been preaching on the sacrifice of Christ in types and aspects. We are presently studying
in Acts and I am preaching through Hebrews. We have yet not been able to obtain a meeting place in Bocas Romana, but hope to meet with both the director of the school and the Mayor as soon as they can see us about renting a schoolroom. Please pray about a place to meet. We are glad to have these people meet in our living quarters, but we think others might come if we were in a more public place nearer to them.
We have picked up 5,000 copies of THE TRAIL OF BLOOD and have begun some distribution of these. We are preparing to print and bind several more publications ourselves (soon we will have 28 titles in our inventory) and these we will distribute along with this new edition. We are excited about the prospect of getting this literature into the hands of interested readers. As our materials are in demand, several unscrupulous Romanian "Christian Baptist" pastors have been selling our free publications! In an effort to stop this, we now print on the covers of each one that they are free copies. One Romanian Brother who has a small Bible Institute here in the Banat has requested 50 copies of all our titles to give to his students as well as some CD's. One pastor's widow who has a small religious bookstore is giving away free copies to some of her customers.
We were given a special offering of $250 expressly to purchase sovereign grace books for the theology students at the Baptist Institute in Bucuresti, With part of that money we have purchased 50 copies of THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD by A.W. Pink and these we will include in a special packet along with other things to each of these young people. We want to purchase another suitable title in Romanian to include in this packet. Sound materials in the Romanian language are very difficult to find as not many sound Baptist materials have been translated thus far.
The Brothers in Oltenia continue to request and distribute our materials and are seeking to influence as many as possible toward the truth in their circle of influence. In addition we have had 4 or 5 letters of inquiry about literature and spiritual problems. One young man wrote that he knew he was saved, but his friends plagued him in that they continue to tell him he was not saved because he had not gone forward in a religious meeting. We have prayed for wisdom and have answered these letters as God has given us wisdom.
In addition we have gotten the dirt dug out of the driveway in front of the gate, the curbs repaired and a load of smell gravel hauled in and spread. Now the drivewaywill not be all ruts and mud when it rains and people can come to our meetings without getting their shoes muddy.
Thank you for "holding the rope for us" so that we can remain here in Romania and do the work God has set before us. We solicit your interest and continued earnest prayers on our behalf. We recognize our many weaknesses and are constantly in dependence on our sovereign, omnipotent God! Please pray for us, for the mission work here in Bocsa and for the outreach in otherareas. And don't forget to prayfor the Brethren in Siberia, Russia who are facing many difficulties due to their stand for the Word of God.
In the cause with you,
Curtis and Janet Pugh
