PRAYER LETTER FOR
MAY, 2006
Monday, June 12, 2006
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that
are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be
with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
Greetings
from Romania! May the great blessing of daily fellowship with God’s
Son be yours! What peace and joy He gives even in the midst of difficulties!
Bocsa
Meeting: The “regulars” continue faithful in attendance as do
the members here in Bocsa. In addition, since our last letter, we
have had one first time visitor and one visited twice who has visited us
before. We have been laboring many hours with a young preacher who
is confused on several doctrines – please pray for this aspect of our work
here.
Filiasi
Meeting: We have been able to travel regularly to Filiasi since
our last report and the attendance there has been good. Besides the
members and “regulars” we have two new men and one woman coming.
These are becoming “regulars” and are rejoicing in the free grace of God
in salvation. They are intelligent, hardworking people who are seeing
the evils of the hierarchal system. We keep feeding these “sheep”
and trusting the Lord to add them to the Church by baptism in the days
ahead. Pray for them as there is much opposition to their coming
to our services by the Baptist Union people as well as lost family members.
Literature:
The literature work as far as printing is concerned has slowed some because
of lack of funds for paper, but we keep going with the emphasis on good
gospel tracts. In spite of the slowdown in printing, this last month
we set a record, sending out more than 8,500 pieces. My latest tract
'I AM LOOKING FOR SINNERS' has been received with interest in some places,
but in two places that we know about, the “evangelicals” have become angry
and proclaimed that they are not sinners, that they are good people.
What wickedness has the Arminian doctrine of partial depravity done when
“church people” who are called “Baptists” don’t even know they are sinners!
The literature ministry has given us contacts in several parts of the country
– people (some pastors) who want us to come and preach to them. We
now have a “Preaching Tour Fund” and enough money to begin by traveling
east to Bucuresti and other cities – perhaps we can go again to the Republic
of Moldova as well as Romanian Moldova. How we praise the Lord for
this provision and the opportunity of preaching to these people who are
hungry for truth.
I must tell you about Nicu, the older Brother in Filiasi. He loaded
up the backpack with our literature and caught a train some distance to
a city located to the east of Filiasi. There he began to distribute
the tracts and booklets – I think at the depot. The people actually
lined up to get the literature from him after he told them some of the
titles! Some said, “We are sinners, we want that tract” in reference
to the tract I AM LOOKING FOR SINNERS. Please pray that eternal fruit
will abound through this means to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ!
The roof doesn’t leak! - well almost … That’s what I wrote last month!
We are glad that the recent heavy rains have not gotten through the new
roof into the office or bathroom – but the back porch is suffering badly.
Climbing around on the roof caused holes to appear in the metal “valley”
and some other problems have arisen and so additional work is required.
We have purchased metal for the “valley” and are awaiting dry weather for
the roofers to come.
Janet’s
Realm: It is always nice to have appliances, etc. to work with.
I have a new electric lawnmower – just right to cut the court (small yard)
behind the house. Wives always appreciate such thoughtfulness of
their husbands! I do like to keep the grass cut – short grass is
neat and attractive and means fewer mice and rats! (We don’t have
a cat, but several of our neighbors do and we appreciate their visits!)
Romania is mostly a beautiful green right now and the weather is cool.
We were keeping a wood fire going in our living quarters, but finally turned
the central heat back on as the office and print shop were so cold.
Unusual weather for Romania this time of year, to say the least.
Get
Acquainted with Romania: This past Sunday the Orthodox (and the Baptist
Union Baptists) celebrated “Pentecost Sunday” along with the Pentecostals
and Plymouth Brethren. How the Baptists here have adopted the Orthodox
calendar is saddening. But the Orthodox openly mix paganism with
such “holy days” claiming their church has the right to do so. Every
person who went to an Orthodox Church Sunday came away with a small branch
with green leaves. This is not tied to anything Christian or Jewish,
but to the ancient paganism of the Dacian people, one branch of the ancestors
of modern Romanians. After church people were seen on the streets
with these branches, “taking the blessing home with them!” Some people
on the streets were dressed in national costumes (folk dress) and some
large gatherings of Pentecostals were held on this special “holy day.”
As I come to the close of this letter, I always want to be appreciative
for the many prayers that ascend to the Father on our behalf and on behalf
of the work here as well as for the thoughtful and generous financial support
that you send our way. We do THANK YOU! God is answering prayer
in that Janet is able to keep going in spite of her handicaps and condition
and though weak, I am able to now put in a full day once again. How
good God is, and how thankful we are to Him for His grace and to you for
your prayers on our behalf. Continue, please, to pray for us and
for Raul and Aurel as they labor diligently and faithfully with us. Remember
also the Brothers in Filiasi as they witness in the midst of difficulties
and opposition.
In the cause of God and truth with you,
Curtis and Janet Pugh
