PRAYER LETTER FOR
MAY, 2007
Tuesday, June 12, 2007
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that
are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be
with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
The
Lord continues to be our encouragement as we see Him working in the lives
of men and women to whom we minister. We hope that God is your encouragement
and hope that you will be encouraged as we are. Surely our God is
great and greatly to be praised!
Medical: Janet and I continue as usual. We often say
that we are a broken down old pair of mules, but that we are still a team
– and we do thank God for His sustaining power. And we wish to thank
those who helped us recently with our medical expenses. May God bless
your for this thoughtfulness! After another brief “spell” with all
the usual symptoms and one or two unexpected ones, I am back at work again.
Bocsa and Filiasi: Our attendance continues steady here in
Bocsa and also in Filiasi. One Brother who has faithfully attended
services in Filiasi for some months now, has asked for baptism. He
was not able to be present this past Lord’s Day evening when we were there,
but has been talking with the Brothers there. Of course we will need
to talk with him personally and hope to be able to do so this coming Lord’s
Day. So we hope to schedule a baptism in the near future. The
trip to Filiasi is exhausting (ask our pastor or Brother and Sister Snyder
or Brother Crow!) Much of the highway is under construction – that
means it has been demolished and is being rebuilt. The trip at present
takes longer, the weather has been warmer (hot!) and the long gravel detours
and one-way stretches are really dusty. Not only cars, but big transport
trucks also raise up lots of fine dust and as we must have the windows
down, we “eat” a lot of it! But the fellowship with the Brothers
in Filiasi is sweet. They are always anxious to hear the Word of
God and so it is a blessing to make the trip. It is cooler on the
return trip and there is usually less traffic at night also. We arrived
home about 1:30 AM this past Sunday night (Monday morning) and that’s about
usual.
U.S. Trip: The Grace Baptist Church of Stanleyville, N.C.
where Elder Gene Kiger is pastor has voted to bring Brothers Aurel and
Raul, our co-workers, to the U.S. for their Fall conference. Brother
Raul is expecting to preach and Brother Aurel to sing and both will probably
talk about the work here. This Church has provided funds to meet
the costs involved, including visas, travel, and airfare, etc. We
are very thankful for this prospect, and only one hurdle remains.
The U.S. government requires that these young men obtain visas for their
visit. Often the U.S. Consulate seems to act capriciously and deny
visas without good reasons, so we ask for your earnest and frequent prayers
to our Sovereign regarding this matter. These men will have to satisfy
the U.S. Visa Agents that they have substantial ties to Romania and that
they will indeed return to this country and not stay illegally in the United
States. The Brothers expect to be in the U.S. only for about a month
as their responsibilities here require that they return speedily.
While in the U.S. our plans are for these two men to visit our Church in
Denham Springs also. Please pray about this proposed trip and the
needed visas.
Van Fund: When I last wrote to you $6,500 had come in toward
the purchase of a second-hand van. To the glory of our great God,
we are happy to report this month that the total received to date is $14,000.
(Some of these funds have not yet been deposited and so will show on future
reports when deposited). This means that we have on hand at the present
date more than half the estimated cost of a good second-hand van!
Our hearts are filled with praise to our God and with gratefulness to you
who have prayed about this need and to those who have been able to help
us financially toward this goal. Thank you! Keep praying, please!
Russian Literature Project: The two men, Brothers in Christ,
in Cahul, Republic of Moldova, who are qualified and interested in translating
Elder Tom Ross’s OUTLINES OF SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY – which is an outline
of T.P. Simmons’ A SYSTEMATIC STUDY OF BIBLE DOCTRINE have arrived at a
price for their work. We believe their price of $1,900 is very reasonable.
They have started work on the translation of this book and have asked for
an advance of $500 which is quite reasonable. I feel so strongly
about the importance of this work and the need for the book in the Russian
language that I am advancing them this money out of personal funds as no
funds have yet come in for this project. (I am trusting the Lord
that sufficient funds for this project will come in and that Janet and
I can be reimbursed this amount!) We have “shopped around” and this
price is quite reasonable considering the prices quoted by other translators.
Not knowing exactly how many pages the book will consist of when translation
is completed, we do not yet have a price on printing it, but believe it
will run somewhere between $2,000 and $3,000 if the work is hired out.
We will receive a formatted copy of the work – ready to print – on CD –
when the translation is completed. If the shipping costs are not
too great, we will print the books here and ship them to Siberia and to
the Ukraine (and other places as requested). However, it may be that
the cheapest and best way will be to supply funds to either Brother
Sergey or Brother Vladimir in Irkutsk and in that way they can get the
printing done there and avoid shipping and customs costs – and the bribes
that are expected and demanded in order to get goods transported into Russia.
If printed in Siberia, we would be sure that the books are available to
the Brothers there and we can print a smaller number here for the Ukraine.
Funds and transfer of same will be handled by our Church in Denham Springs
– and again we are very thankful to God for our pastor who is willing to
do the extra bookkeeping and banking, etc., required for this project.
So we ask for your prayers and financial help in getting these truths to
Russian-speaking people in Siberia, the Ukraine and other places!
This work is greatly needed!
Once again,
as always, I run out of space before I am finished. Please accept
our gratitude for your interest as expressed in your prayers and in your
financial help! Pray for us here, please!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
Curtis and Janet Pugh
