PRAYER LETTER FOR NOVEMBER, 2006

Saturday, December 16, 2006
Dear Pastors and Churches:
All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
G reetings from Romania!  This year is almost gone and as always, God has proven Himself faithful to all of His people!  Praise the Lord for bringing us all thus far.
Bocsa Meeting:  Attendance has been consistent in Bocsa with one first time visitor and two returning visitors on several Sundays since our last letter.  The group, as you may have noticed, has begun regular monthly support of the literature work and from time to time has other financial projects.
Filiasi Meeting:  Visitors continue to attend the Filiasi meetings and the members there continue with their zealous witnessing and literature distribution.  Since last writing, the older Brother, Nicu, has traveled by train to the capitol, Bucuresti, and distributed more than 200 packets of our literature at the main train depot there.  As I write, today, the two younger Brothers have about 150 packets of literature to distribute in a village nearer to their city.  They will travel by train and go gate to gate talking to the villagers and giving to those interested in the printed materials.
Winter Theological School:  The Winter Theological School goes well with continuing interest and attendance.  The students are asking good questions showing deep thought about the doctrine of grace.  A trip is planned to encourage and answer questions.  Hopefully we will be able to schedule this trip in January.  Pray for this ongoing school and the preparation required for it.
Computer Project:  One national preacher, very sound in grace – a young man who is fluent in English and who ministers in an isolated village in the east of Romania, mentioned that in two or three years he hoped to save enough to buy a computer.  Having an old computer with somewhat limited capabilities just sitting in storage here in Bocsa, we have had a bit of upgrading done on it and purchased a used monitor – thus putting together a good working computer for this young preacher.  It will be loaded with a Bible study program, Strong’s concordance, etc., and other study helps, including an English dictionary, etc., as well as a Romanian Bible.  We hope to ship this to him next week.  We do not have a printer to send to him, but perhaps the Lord will enable us to help him with one.
Literature:  The print shop has been going full steam these last few weeks as we have needed to reprint several titles because of increased requests for them.  We have at least three new titles ready for the press – one a sermon of Spurgeon’s – and hope to get them out soon after the new year.
Financial News:  Please be aware that the U.S. dollar is at its record low against the Euro which means that our purchasing power is considerably less.  If you look at the financial report you will see increases from last month – but nobody got raises!  It just takes more dollars to buy Romanian Lei as Romanian money is tied to the Euro.
Get Acquainted with Romania:  Two important pieces of news about Romania are worth mentioning and one especially requires urgent prayer.  Romania will officially become a member of the Euopean Union as of January 1, 2007 – just days away!  This is one of the reasons prices are rising at an unbelievable pace.  Of courses taxes must be increased as a new level of government must be supported, so the little man in Romania suffers most.
As difficult as this is, a possibly more dangerous obstacle may be arising.  Just days prior to entrance into the European Union (and timed, probably so as to be too late to keep them out) the Romanian Parliament passed legislation making it illegal to attempt to proselyte a person from one faith to another – in other words, it will be illegal to witness and evangelize.  This vague and non-specific law may be used to stop evangelism, public preaching, and even literature distribution, etc.  Not all details have been made public yet as the bill was passed almost in secret.  We understand that it stopped short of making the Romanian Orthodox Church the official religion of Romania, but it did specify a three-month’s prison sentence for those convicted of trying to “proselyte” others.  It did deal with of “psychological manipulation” in making converts – which speaks no doubt of the Arminian-get-‘em-down-the-aisle gimmick.  There is a lot we are yet unsure of, but we are sure that the Orthodox will try to use this new law against all who oppose them.  So we ask for special prayer at this time and in the days and months ahead as we continue faithful in sounding out the truth.  We should know the text of the law next week and will keep you informed so that you can pray for us and with us about this matter and our activities here – which may put us in prison.
So, Brothers and Sisters, as always, we stand in great need of your prayers!  The young men have said they are not afraid – but I want you to know that Romanian prisons are terrible places.  I don’t want to go there, but I believe I am willing to evangelize inside a prison if that is where the Lord wants me to work.
Please accept our thankfulness and appreciation to all of you for your faithful prayer and financial support!  We could not do the work set before us if you were not standing with us and being very much a part of this work.  We thank you for your letters and cards, too, for they encourage us much and cause us to be reminded to continue to pray faithfully for you.  Pray for us!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
