PRAYER LETTER FOR NOVEMBER, 2008

Wednesday, December 10, 2008
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
We send you warmest brotherly greetings from all of us here in Romania in this last month of 2008.  May God’s abundant blessings in Christ be yours!
Travel:  November was a month of travel for us.  Bros. Aurel and Raul traveled by train to retrieve the Nissan from the repair shop as reported.  Janet, Raul and I all came down with seemingly serious medical problems that necessitated a trip to the clinic in Budapest, Hungary.  Janet was experiencing really bad dizziness (far worse than usual) and seriously low blood pressure.  Raul had been “diagnosed” by a Romanian doctor as having a serious heart problem and I needed to have blood work done and the growths in my right leg seen about.  So we made the trip and had to stay 4 days in order to be seen by specialists.  The doctors changed Janet’s blood pressure medication and determined that nothing can be done to remedy her constant dizziness.  After an EKG (which had not been done in Romania) and an exam, the cardiologist determined that Raul does not have a heart condition at all, but rather has been affected by stress which he seems to be managing better now.  I did not require blood and the doctor doesn’t know what to think about the 5 growths in the calf of my right leg, but thinks they are harmless.  In addition to this, we traveled on three Sundays to Filiasi for services there.  We are thankful for God’s traveling mercies!
Filiasi:  As I reported before, the Brothers in Filiasi located a hotel where they now rent a room for a meeting place.  It has it’s own outside entrance and is large enough to hold 15 or 20 people.  It is not well heated and so we loaned them a portable electric heater that helps.  The hotel is a leftover “coop” from Communist days and by American standards is a dump.  But we rejoice that the Brothers are faithful to pay for the room and it is an acceptable place to meet, especially in the poor region of Oltenia.  Other good news is that we had both first-time and returning visitors at all of the services.  Interest in the Word seems genuine and so we are doing our best to “feed” these folk the Word of God.
Bocsa: Attendance at our services here in Bocsa remains constant except for sickness which has kept some of our “regulars” away for a couple of services.  I completed my series of messages on what Christ thinks of Churches based on the seven Churches of Revelation.  Bro. Raul is teaching through Second John right now.  We all enjoy good fellowship both before and after the services.
Risograph:  Our Risograph has produced a multitude of gospel booklets, studies, sermons, etc. without ever having had a “service.”  We have had to replace a few parts over the years, but lately have had trouble getting the paper to feed properly into the machine.  So a trip was made to Cluj-Napoca to the dealer for the repair, much needed service and interior cleaning.  A “clutch” had to be replaced and routine maintenance performed.  While in Cluj literature was distributed and the opportunity for Raul to preach one message presented itself.  The owner of the Riso dealership is a professed believer.  Although a member of a Baptist Union church, he was interested to talk doctrine and receive a supply of our literature for distribution in a prison and other places where he preaches.  We were surprised because he charged us only for the parts needed for our Riso, charging nothing for the work his mechanic did.  God blesses!
Car Repair: The second-hand van we purchased requires major transmission work as you may remember.  We need the van and so I decided to go ahead and put the car in the repair shop.  Considering all the circumstances, plans are to pay for the repairs with my personal credit card and repay the card as we are able each month.  We expect the repair costs to be well in excess of $3,000.  The U.S. dollar is presently higher against both the Euro and the Romanian Lei.  As a result we have a bit more each month and thought we ought to take advantage of this situation.  Hopefully the van repairs will be completed sometime this month, depending on what parts are needed and the length of time to get them from outside the country.
Literature:  We have several literature projects in progress as always.  I have recently completed a study course on Basic Bible Doctrine that follows our Church’s confession of faith.  This is now in process of translation.  We continue with the final editing (proofing) of Eld. Tom Ross’ Outline Studies based on T.P. Simmons book.  The print shop stays busy keeping supplies of Gospel tracts and other studies on hand as requests come in almost daily by letter and phone calls.
Gifts:  Special thanks to the ladies of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Chesapeake, Ohio for the care package we received in November.  We do appreciate their kind and thoughtfulness shown in that they cared enough to send needed things our way as well as some surprises!  Such things as are not available here are a real treat and enabled us to share some of them with friends.  We also received in November a love offering from Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Chesapeake, Ohio and a designated special gift for car repair from The Sovereign Grace Baptist Church of Craigsville, WV.  To those who sent these things our way, we thank you all!  Your many kindnesses toward these unworthy servants is greatly appreciated.
I see that I am about out of space again!  November was a special month of birthday cards and letters all of which brought joy and encouragement, knowing you had thought of us.  For these we thank you as well as for your faithful support, and especially your prayers on our behalf.  We depend on your prayers and urge you to continue praying for us and for the work here!  The need is great!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
