PRAYER LETTER FOR OCTOBER, 2008

Tuesday, November 18, 2008
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
May the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.  May you be blessed with many reasons to rejoice and may your joy be full!  May your love for Him, for your brethren and for the lost continue to blossom and grow!  “… neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
Mission Trip:  Actually, since my last report, Brothers Aurel and Raul have made two trips to the eastern part of Romania.  During the first trip the bearings went out in the Nissan transmission and the car had to be left at a dealer in Braila.  The men completed the trip via public transport.  After 3 weeks the Nissan was repaired, so they went by train to retrieve the car and taught and preached in 3 locations on the way back home, taking some 5 days to make the return trip.  So, in the wise and kind providence of God, opportunities were had once and again to strengthen the Brethren and preach to the lost.
The following are reports written by the men about this trip.  I thought it would be good for you to hear directly from them.  Raul wrote in English as he is proficient in that language as well as Romanian and passable in German.  Aurel wrote in Romanian and he, along with Raul, translated what he wrote.  (Brother Aurel labors in producing the literature – printing and binding, etc.  Brother Raul works in translating, formatting and other computer work as well as being a sound preacher licensed by our Church.)
Brother Aurel’s report:  “For this trip we took with us about 3000 copies of literature to supply the brethren. All of them were rejoicing in receiving it. They rejoiced having the new publications: Brother Cockrell’s In Search of the Universal Invisible Church, and Raul’s A Short Description of Landmark Baptists. We rejoiced in receiving good reports from the brethren as how the Lord used the literature. The brother in Bacau was telling us that a congregation of about 100 members is leaning now towards the doctrine of grace after he distributed to them our literature. In Rosiori, many now are questioning their holiday observances. These are only a couple out of many other encouraging instances. We took many pictures, and a selection of them will be soon made available on our site, www.abaptistvoice.com. Please continue to pray for the people we visited and for us too, as we have other similar projects before us now.”
Brother Raul’s report:  “In the month of October we made a two week long mission trip in the country. We visited brethren in six different areas (a total of 9 locations). First were the brethren in Filiasi. We made a home visit to each one trying to encourage them. The following three days we spent in Rosiori, being the guests of a great family who came to believe like us and withdrew from the Baptist Union Church there.
Next, we visited the group in Braila area, in the East and spent the weekend with them. We had good fellowship and had long discussions with them about church truth, which they came to believe. I also had opportunity to preach to a congregation there on Sunday.  Brother Curtis’ Nissan broke down in Braila and we had to leave it in the shop and the last half of the trip we traveled by van and bus and train.
We went next to the city of Bacau, where we met for the first time with a Gypsy pastor who believes the doctrine of grace. He impressed us by his eagerness to study and his zeal to preach the Gospel to his own people. Most Gypsies are either very wealthy or very poor. He chose to preach to the poorest of all and many of the members of his assembly make a living by scavenging cardboard and scrap metal. For him, church truth was new, but he showed interest in it, and we spent many hours answering his questions.
From Bacau we went up north to Botosani, where we visited a Baptist Union pastor who distributes our literature in the area. We had a good time of fellowship with him and his family.
From Botosani we traveled across the mountains into Transylvania, to the city of Cluj, the former capital of it and an old Anabaptist center. We visited a brother there who believes the doctrine of grace and is studying church truth. This brother intends to start a Bible study group and wants us to help him. We were also invited to preach to a congregation near Cluj.  From Cluj, we returned home after two weeks on the road and more than 1000 miles covered, exhausted physically, but refreshed spiritually.”
Filiasi: The Brothers have rented a room in a hotel in Filiasi in which to meet.  While it leaves a lot to be desired, it is accessible to all and the Brothers there are paying the rent themselves.  We think this is the scriptural policy.  Please continue to pray for the work in Filiasi as we have new people who have indicated an interest in the truth.  This past Lord’s Day evening was our first meeting in the new location and there were 9 in attendance.  The heat was not working properly and the room was cold, but everyone stayed for the preaching and a time of visiting afterward.
Gifts:  Special thanks to Berea Baptist Church, Mantachie, MS for their box of books received last month and also a special box of things that only a thoughtful and kind missionary couple would think to send our way – sent by Brother Frank and Sister Cyd James.  We do appreciate such thoughtfulness as these things!
I see that I am about out of space – as always!  Thank you for your faithful support, your cards and letters and especially your prayers on our behalf.
Keep praying for us all, please!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
