PRAYER LETTER FOR SEPTEMBER, 2004

October 18, 2004
Dear Pastors and Churches:

Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.”  (Ephesians 6:24).
May you know by experience the grace of God which makes known to us the God of all grace!
The last time I wrote to you I was happy to be back in Romania.  After only a few weeks there I became ill and was ordered by doctors in Hungary to return immediately to the U.S. for treatment which I could not receive anywhere in eastern or central Europe.  So I write now from Denham Springs, LA where Janet and I are staying on the Church property.  I was diagnosed in Hungary with maleo-proliferative syndrome with blast cells – a bone marrow disease which was thought to be responsible for my anemia.  Janet and I arrived here October 9 and I have had one lengthy examination and consultation with the hematologist.  A pathologist has examined a slide prepared from my bone marrow and at this point the doctors are unsure of my diagnosis.  At this moment they think my problem may not be life-threatening.  In fact, my anemia is somewhat less severe as shown by lab work done here.  So the doctor wants to monitor me for some weeks – during which it may be necessary to take another bone marrow sample.  So I am learning patience.  We do not know how long it will be necessary for us to remain in the U.S., but as soon as the doctor releases me we expect to return to Romania.  I hope it will be only a matter of several weeks – or at worst a matter of a few months.  Of course at this point only the Lord knows.  I do believe I am feeling some stronger each day, though I evidently still have the anemia.  I am able to attend Bible Study and all services and hope to be able to preach this coming Lord’s Day here in our home Church.
   Special Appreciation:
Some have sent special financial help for medical expenses recently.  Thank you for this kind and generous help!  May God bless you mightily for your faithfulness and thoughtful sacrifices and gifts at this time.
   Bocsa Meeting:
Services were faithfully attended by the “regulars” while I was in Romania and were blessed as the Word of God was preached and taught.  Now in my absence services continue at the mission property in Bocsa with Brother Raul doing the preaching and teaching.  It was difficult to leave the folk and there was weeping among us.  Many are praying for us there – some who will not stand with us for the free grace of our Sovereign have sent word they are praying for us!  Who knows what God will do!
   Oltenia Preaching Point:
By the time we got the car repaired so as to be able to travel to Oltenia, I was too weak and ill to make the trip down there.  However, Brothers Raul and Aurel have gone and had an encouraging time in the Lord there.  Among the Brethren in that place there was weeping and great concern with many prayers directed Heavenward on our behalf.  It grieved me greatly that I was not able to meet with these Brethren even once while I was there, but the Lord knows what He is doing and we must be content to do those things which He enables us to do.
   Other Places:
As you know we had planned on taking literature and making a preaching tour in other cities where we had been invited by persons interested in the truth.  Brother Raul has spoken with some and written letters to others explaining the delay in our coming.  This is a priority in my heart and I hope soon after my return to Romania to make this tour and go also on east and north into the Republic of Moldova.  The people who have contacted us have indicated their basic agreement with the truths we preach and further, that they have questions for us and wish to be taught!
   Young Preachers:
We continue to have contact with a number of young preachers who have come to see sovereign grace.  Fellowship is important to these who have been ostracized because of their stand.  We try to direct good literature their way as well.  Pray for these and other preachers with whom we have contact and who have accepted and are reading our literature.  May God be pleased to open their eyes to the truth about Christ’s Churches!
   Literature Work:
Translation continues in my absence!  Several new titles are in process.  Tomorrow we are supposed to have a phone connected here and I will soon be able to be actively involved in the editing work required in our translation process.  We continue to receive requests for literature and Brother Aurel and Brother Raul are keeping supplies printed up so as to be able to fill these requests as they come in.  In addition the CDs are made and mailed out as requests for them come in.
Janet and I want to express our appreciation to you for all your prayers.  Many of you prayed for her and her family concerning the recent passing of her father.  We received e-mails and notes and letters and thank you for your concern and love!
In this present time of sickness we have already received several communications and our pastor has received many also.  Thank you for standing with us in prayer during this time!  Please continue to pray for the work in Romania and for Brother Aurel and Brother Raul as they labor there.  One or both are staying in the mission property to protect the place and contents.  Thank you for your faithful support and special giving to meet the necessary special expenses at this time!
    Pray for the Pughs!
In the cause of God and truth,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
