PRAYER LETTER FOR SEPTEMBER, 2006

Tuesday, October 10, 2006
Dear Pastors and Churches:
All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
Our desire and prayer to God for each of you is that you are well, but more than that, that you are doing well spiritually, rejoicing in the Lord and in His free grace!
Health Concerns:  We are happy to tell you that the numbness and tingling in Janet’s face seems to be going away and normal feeling returning around her right eye!  Praise the Lord!  Her dizziness and my weakness continue, but God is gracious to us and enables us to continue.
Bocsa Meeting: Attendance continues to be good, though on a couple of Lord’s Days two have been away because of work.  Some families have extensive gardens in neighboring villages and have had to be away from Bocsa in order to harvest their crops.  Potato fields have to be harvested when they can get a man to come with horses and plow to dig them, etc.  Over all, the garden and field crops have been good in our area this year and for this we are thankful.  Life is somewhat easier in Romania when there is adequate food for the people and animals.
Filiasi Meeting:  The folk in Filiasi seem to be doing well spiritually.  Their services are regular, their evangelistic zeal unabated, and their lives a testimony to the free grace of God.  I had not been well enough to go there for some weeks, but last Sunday I was able and the fellowship was great and the love obvious and I believe God helped in the preaching.  I preached against compromise using as main texts the four compromises that Pharaoh offered Moses and the children of Israel during the time of the ten plagues.
Winter Theological School:   We are in the process of preparing for a 6 month long school to be held in eastern Romania – a considerable distance from Bocsa and so the cost of travel and overnight lodging and meals will be involved.  I believe there will be about 7 preachers who will begin the course and hope that more will come later.  Arrangements have been made with some Brothers there to “board” these preachers in their homes two days and nights each week for the duration of the school.  The men will travel by train, mostly, to attend these sessions.  We are in these days preparing the syllabus for the course.  This outline will attempt to cover all the major aspects of the doctrine of the free and sovereignly bestowed grace of God in salvation.  It is the desire of these men to study this subject in depth.  We will not be able to travel to this distant place every week and so are making the outline of study quite detailed and there are two Brothers there who are sound on grace and who will necessarily fill in for us in the times we are absent.  The cost of sponsoring this school is $600 for board and train travel for these preachers.  We have already supplied our literature to these men and will give each one a copy of THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD by A.W. Pink.  At this writing, one dear Sister from the U.S. has indicated she will give $100 towards the cost of this school and one Church is going to cover the cost of THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD books which is $115. Please be much in prayer for this effort in teaching men who shall be able to teach others also.
Literature:  Last time I told you about the problem with the folder-stapler.  We transported the machine to Cluj-Napoca, a city in the north central part of Romania where there is a dealer and repair shop.  It was “fixed,” and tested, and we picked it up the same day, but when we returned to Bocsa, the thing would not work properly as some of the cams, etc., had not been adjusted properly.  So, to save money, we shipped the machine to the dealer rather than driving the long distance.  It has been there about 3 weeks waiting on parts from Germany.  Today the machine is to be outfitted with used parts and returned to us.  When the new parts come we will install them and return the used ones.  So our literature production has been hindered greatly by the absent of this all-important machine.  We have been able to keep up to date on literature requests from existing stock and by folding and stapling by hand a few titles that were requested.  Hopefully, soon we will be back in production.
New Support:  Last month I reported to you that two Churches have begun to support Brother Raul and Brother Aurel on a monthly basis.  These men work full time weekdays in the ministry here and on Sundays travel with me (and sometimes without me when I am unable to travel) to preach, primarily to the Brothers in Filiasi.  They are worthy of adequate support and are getting far less than that.  Besides the two Churches beginning support for these men mentioned in last month’s letter, I am happy to tell you that the Grace Baptist Church, Stonefort, IL (where Brother Delbert Shults is the pastor) has begun monthly support of these two faithful men.  We praise the Lord for this help!  The support of these Churches is detailed in the monthly Financial Report for those of you who sustain this mission work.
Sometimes I wonder if I am clear enough in these monthly prayer letters (and we do welcome questions about anything that may not be clear), but we do want to be clear and strong in our telling you of our gratitude and appreciation to all of you who pray for us and this work and who are enabled of God to help us with financial support.  I cannot emphasize enough our feelings of appreciation for all that you do for us.  Some Churches and individuals send cards, letters, and e-mails.  Often many of you are led to make special gifts to various aspects of this work.  Janet and I are far from our family and home Church, and do appreciate knowing that you care about us and stand with us.  Thank you!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
