PRAYER LETTER FOR SEPTEMBER, 2008

Saturday, October 11, 2008
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
Warmest greetings from all of us who labor together with you here in Romania!  Our desire is that God’s grace may be with you in all things.
Mission Trip:  As I write this prayer letter Brothers Raul and Aurel are in the eastern part of Romania.  I was not physically able to make the trip at this time due to one of my
”sieges.”  God gave them safe travel, so far, and we are full of thanksgiving for this.  They report good meetings and fellowship where they are and in the previous 3 stops.  We rejoice in the openhearted reception of the Word of God among some, at least, in these places.
Winter Bible School:  Most of the preachers who have been studying our Winter School materials are presently attending a Friday night through Sunday night meeting in Braila County.  Brother Raul is doing the preaching and teaching.  I suppose we could attempt to impress folk by calling this a “seminar” or something like that!  It is a concentrated series of meetings with teaching, question and answer times, and fellowship as well as the public preaching of the Gospel.  Most of these preachers have now openly declared themselves “local-church-only” in contrast to the Romanian Baptist position of “universal church.”  Some have declared that they now see the need scriptural baptism!  Brother Raul is teaching them more church-truth on this trip.  These things are all new to them, but these men have been very receptive to the Word.  Please continue to pray for them.  They are zealous for the truth and active in visiting and preaching in their several localities.  We are anxious to see the first New  Testament Church established in that part of the country!
Opposition:  As Paul wrote that the devil hindered him from making journeys, so it is today whenever an effort is made to preach and teach, especially in new places.  The second-hand van that we bought had to be parked because of transmission problems.  Now we learn that there are serious bearing problems with the Nissan transmission that the Brothers are using on their mission trip.  We have some funds with which to repair the Nissan transmission, but will need about $3,000 to fix the van, according to the dealer in Timisoara.  We do need the van and so ask you to pray about this matter as well.  As God provides, we plan on getting it roadworthy and making use of it.
Special Offerings:  Since our last writing, we have received a special offering from the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church in Pleasant Plains, Illinois. Thank you for this generous and kind help!  We are thankful for all the financial giving and now make note of special offerings in our prayer letters because we can never be sure that personal letters get from Romania to the U.S.
Filiasi:  We still lack a suitable place to meet in Filiasi!  We hope to contact the high school principal there and ask about renting a room on a regular basis.  Many refuse to rent to us because we are “repenters” and much hated by the Romanian Orthodox: Others because we are independent Baptists and not in the Union.  Please pray with us about this need!
Bocsa: Our attendance here continues about the same.  We hear often of others who want to come, and occasionally some do.  Opposition to the doctrine of the Bible is strong.  We continue to talk, visit, preach and teach in person and via literature.
Literature:  The baggage area of the Nissan was nearly full of literature when Brothers Raul and Aurel left on the trip to southern and eastern Romania.  Brother Aurel had worked feverishly in the duplication and binding of much literature.  He also had to package it in suitable size packages.  Some of these materials are aids to study and will be used by those with whom meetings are to be held.  Other materials are gospel booklets that these “collaborators” will distribute in various villages and cities in their respective areas. We try to supply people with as much literature as they can use, but not more than will be used. Please keep praying for this part of our work!
The Dollar:  In the midst of all the economic turmoil and loss, for whatever reasons, the U.S. dollar is higher against the Euro.  This has been a help to us these past few weeks and while we wish suffering and loss for no one, we are thankful for this help.  Even though prices are rising almost daily for necessary items, it is a real help to have “extra” banknotes to defray costs.  It would be great to have the dollar back up where it was before, but even a little bit helps!
Siberia: The financial report reflects that our pastor made the final bank-to-bank transfer to the Brothers in Siberia.  This money was to help defray the cost of duplicating Elder Tom Ross’ Outline of Systematic Bible Doctrine.  It is good to know that the Brothers there now have copies of this book in the Russian language.  May God bless the truth in that far away and difficult place!
Thank you for your help: your prayers and giving on behalf of this literature project have made it a reality.
I see that I am about out of space once again!  Thank you for your ministry of prayer on our behalf as well as your generous giving toward this mission work!  We count on you and are thankful that you faithfully “hold the rope” for us!  Keep praying for us all, please!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis and Janet Pugh
