PRAYER LETTER FOR SEPTEMBER, 2009

Saturday, October 10, 2009
Dear Pastors and Churches:
“All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen” (Titus 3:15).
God’s Word says “the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost.” Your love in the faith for us is encouraging and we thank you for it!  “Let us love one another.”
Mission Trip:  Human estimation is not always to be trusted, but we believe the recent missionary trip to the East (Braila County and the city of Bacau) was blessed of God.  The Brothers had no problems or difficulties other than lots of bad roads and some threats and opposition in one village. But such opposition is to be expected.
After several hours in teaching and answering questions, Brothers Aurel and Raul, along with some preachers, made a visit to a village in which there live only Romanian Orthodox people.  In the village they went gate to gate speaking with the people and giving them Gospel tracts.  Before long they were told that a few weeks before some Seventh Day Adventists had been there and had been beaten until they fled from the village.  But only threats were made to the Brothers.  They were not harmed in any way and for this we thank the Lord!
However, then the village policeman came to them and warned them that they had no right to visit gate to gate or to distribute any literature unless it had first been approved by the village priest.  The Brothers informed him that they knew the Romanian law, that they were citizens, and that they had a right to give whatever the people wanted to take.  The policeman warned them again, but the Brothers wisely and kindly held their ground.
This is not at all unusual behavior as the village Orthodox priests exercise great power in their villages through the mayors and the policemen.  They generally keep the people in fear, however this time many of the people received Gospel literature and some asked questions.  Some asked what Baptists are, etc., having never heard of or met one before.  May God bless His Word thus spread in Braila County!
Many questions were asked and answered regarding the Lord’s Churches in the meeting in Bacau as pastors and other preachers met with Raul and Aurel.  In addition to teaching and answering questions, they had opportunities to preach in public services in two places.
Special Gifts:  Since my last writing, the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church of Pleasant Plains, Illinois where Elder Timothy Hille is pastor gave two generous financial gifts.  One was given to Brother Aurel and the other to Brother Raul.  Such gifts are not only helpful to the Brothers financially, but they are a great encouragement to all of us.  Surely God uses His Churches to supply a table even in the midst of a religious world that knows not Christ!  Thanks you, Pleasant Plains Baptist Church!
Business Trip:  Janet and I needed to have some papers notarized for use in the U.S.  What is a simple thing in the States is not so simple here.  In order to accomplish this, we were informed by our U.S. Embassy that we must come to an embassy and there have the documents notarized.  It is at least a ten-hour drive over bad roads to the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, Romania, but only a 5 or 6 hour drive to Budapest, Hungary where there is another U.S. Embassy.  So we made the trip and were successful in getting the two little forms notarized.  Things that are simple in the U.S. are often complicated in foreign countries!
Out of space again!  Just as you, we often find ourselves busy with natural things when we would rather be busy with spiritual work.  Cars have to be repaired, plumbing, roofs, gutters, etc., have to be fixed.  Grass has to be cut and raked, trash carried out, and computer-problems have to be resolved.  You all have to do these things as well, we know.  And so it is also necessary for those of us whose great desire it is to be busy about spiritual things.
The fact that you pray for us and stand with us is a great encouragement!  Because you are faithful in your prayers and financial support we are able to continue the work here.  Thank you for all your love, prayers, and support!  Many are hearing with the outer ear – may God be pleased to give His people real “hearing ears.”
Please pray for the Pughs, and for Brothers Raul and Aurel!
In the cause of God and truth with you,
    Curtis & Janet Pugh
